TFC CONFLICT AT UNCTLED ARPT.

Narrative

THE PROB OCCURRED ON A LCL MULTI-ENG TRAINING FLT. AFTER COMPLETING OUR MANEUVERS IN THE LCL PRACTICE AREA SW OF THE ARPT; WE WERE RETURNING TO THE ARPT. WE MONITORED CTAF AND HEARD A CESSNA RPTING A L PATTERN ON THE TURF RWY 8L AT F45 ARPT. WE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD LAND ON RWY 8R AND THAT WE WOULD FLY A PRACTICE ILS RWY 8R. WE MADE TFC CALLS STARTING 10 NM W OF THE ARPT. WE MADE ADDITIONAL CALLS 5 NM; 3 NM AND 1 MI FINAL RWY 8R. WE DID NOT HEAR ANY OTHER TFC AT THE ARPT; HOWEVER; WE WERE LOOKING DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF GLIDER TFC AT THE ARPT. ON SHORT FINAL; APPROX 1000 FT FROM THE THRESHOLD; WE SAW THE C172 ON SHORT FINAL IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON RWY 26L. WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED A GAR AND A R TURN SBOUND. THE C172 THEN STARTED A GAR AND A L TURN; ALSO SBOUND. SEEING THIS; WE WERE FORCED TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE L TURN TO AVOID A POSSIBLE COLLISION. WE ANNOUNCED OUR GAR ON CTAF. THE C172 THEN ANNOUNCED A XWIND RWY 26L AND FINAL RWY 26L. AFTER CLRING THE PATTERN; WE RETURNED FOR A STANDARD DOWNWIND ENTRY ON RWY 26L. I ESTIMATE THE WINDS TO BE 180 DEGS AT 10 KTS; FAVORING RWY 13 AT F45.
