B727-800 CREW AND OTHER TFC WERE CLRED TO LAND ON INTERSECTING RWY 11 AND 22L AT EWR.
Narrative
CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 11 #2 BEHIND TFC LNDG RWY 22L. WE EVENTUALLY LANDED FIRST; AND HAD TO HOLD SHORT OF THE INTERSECTING RWY; WHICH WAS NOT OUR ORIGINAL INTENTION OR CLRNC. (TWR DID TELL US TO HOLD SHORT JUST AS TFC WAS ABOUT TO TOUCH DOWN.) THOUGH IT'S UP TO THE CTLRS TO PROVIDE THE PROPER SPACING. I ADMIT WE COULD HAVE DONE MORE TO SLOW OUR ACFT; BUT THE NEED WASN'T' APPARENT UNTIL VERY LATE. ALSO WE WERE ADVISED OF HELI TFC L OF FINAL; AND RESTR TO 2000 FT UNTIL JEENO INTERSECTION (5 MI OUT) INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL 1500 FT ; THEN SECONDS AFTER JEENO WE RECEIVED A TCAS RA DIRECTING A MOMENTARY CLIMB. WE COMPLIED EVEN THOUGH WE SAW THE HELI. THESE FACTORS MADE IT DIFFICULT TO ESTABLISH A STABILIZED APCH AND KEPT US BUSY ENOUGH TO DECREASE ATTENTION TO THE RWY 22L TFC. THE SIT WENT NEARLY BEYOND MY CTLABILITY. I WAS RELUCTANT TO GO AROUND FOR FEAR WE MIGHT CONFLICT WITH THE CROSSING TFC POSSIBLY GOING AROUND. IF I DO REQUEST RWY 11 AGAIN. I WILL BE MENTALLY PREPARED FOR MORE THAN THE USUAL CONTINGENCIES.
