Synopsis

A C152 CFI FLIES HIS ACFT BACK TO HOME BASE; NOT REALIZING THAT THE PROP WAS DAMAGED DURING HIS STUDENT'S FLAWED SOLO LNDG.

Narrative

ON FEB/SAT/02; I FLEW FROM LAF TO CFJ TO SOLO MY STUDENT FOR THE FIRST TIME. CFJ IS A LCL NON TWRED ARPT THAT I DECIDED ON USING BECAUSE THERE IS TYPICALLY LESS TFC AND NO TWR TO DISTRACT MY STUDENT. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT CFJ THE WINDS WERE RPTED FROM 160-180 DEGS AT 10 KTS. MY STUDENT HAS EXPERIENCE IN HANG GLIDERS AND GLIDERS AS WELL AS PWRED ACFT. AT THE TIME OF HIS SOLO; HE HAD ROUGHLY 35 HRS OF FLT TIME IN PWRED ACFT. I WAS COMFORTABLE WITH SOLOING HIM MUCH EARLIER; BUT HE HAS A LANGUAGE BARRIER AND OUR HOME CLASS D TWR GETS BUSY AT TIMES. AFTER 3 TOUCH-AND-GOES TOGETHER; I GOT OUT OF THE PLANE. MY STUDENT'S FIRST TOUCH-AND-GO WAS UNEVENTFUL. ON THE SECOND LNDG HE GOT NERVOUS; STEPPED ON THE L BRAKE; AND THE ACFT WENT OFF THE RWY AND HIT A RWY LIGHT POST. I BELIEVED THE LIGHT WAS HIT WITH THE L LNDG GEAR. AFTER I INSPECTED THE GEAR WE CALLED THE FBO MGR AND FLEW HOME. AFTER WE LANDED I FURTHER INSPECTED THE ACFT TO FIND THE PROP DAMAGED. I NEVER THOUGHT OF INSPECTING THE PROP BECAUSE I BELIEVE I WAS DISTR WITH CALMING MY STUDENT AND THE SIT DOWN. IN ADDITION TO BEING AN MEII; I AM ALSO AN A&P.
