Synopsis

AN LTT CREW; STARTING TKOF ROLL AT SJC; EXPERIENCING A NOSEWHEEL SHIMMY; REJECTED THEIR TKOF.

Narrative

ON FEB/WED/02 WE ARRIVED AT SJC AND EXPECTED TO DEPART WITHIN 1 HR WITH 4 PAX. WE HAD THE GPU HOOKED UP IN ANTICIPATION OF A QUICK TURN AND THEN DETERMINED IT WOULD BE 2 HRS. WE TOLD THE LINE STAFF AND THEY PROCEEDED TO MOVE US WHILE WE PREPARED THE ACFT FOR OUR OWNERS. DURING THIS TIME THE LINE STAFF MUST HAVE PLACED THE NOSE GEAR PIN IN THE POUCH LOCATED IN THE SIDE BY THE DOOR. AFTER 1 HR WENT BY; WE BEGAN PREPARING FOR DEP. IT WAS AT THIS TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR CUSTOMERS WOULD BE ARRIVING IN 20 MINS. WE BEGAN TO SCRAMBLE TO ACCOMPLISH OUR DUTIES. ONLY 10 MINS LATER THEY ARRIVED. THE CAPT WAS INSIDE THE FBO WAITING FOR THEM. AFTER I LOADED THEIR BAGS; I RUSHED INSIDE TO ALERT HIM OF THEIR ARR. I TOLD HIM THEY WERE HERE; THEIR BAGS WERE LOADED AND READY TO GO. DURING THE PREFLT; I DID THOROUGHLY INSPECT THE NOSE LINK AS IT WAS UP (IN THE NORMAL POS); THEREFORE INCORRECTLY ASSUMED THAT THE LINE STAFF AT THE FBO REPLACED IT WHEN THEY MOVED IT. WE TAXIED AND THE ACFT APPEARED NORMAL EVEN WHILE THE CAPT MADE SEVERAL 90 DEG TURNS. WE BEGAN OUR TKOF ROLL AND NOTICED A SHIMMY AND IMMEDIATELY ABORTED TKOF ON THE DISPLACED THRESHOLD AND TAXIED OFF RWY PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THE RWY. POST INSPECTION REVEALED THE NOSE PIN HAD FAILED TO BE INSTALLED.
