CLASS D AIRSPACE INCURSION BY AN ATP PLT IN A BE35; 2 NM FROM SDL; AZ.

Narrative

I DEPARTED PRC TO RETURN TO MY HOME FIELD; AVQ. I CLBED TO 11500 FT; AND REQUESTED FLT FOLLOWING AND RECEIVED IT FROM ZAB. UPON HDOF TO PHOENIX APCH CTL; I NOTICED THAT THE NOISE LEVEL INCREASED AT THE TOP OF THE DOOR ALONG WITH THE ENTRANCE LIGHT FLICKERING. I WAS CONCERNED THAT THE DOOR WOULD OPEN IN FLT SO I REQUESTED FROM APCH MY DESIRE TO PROCEED DIRECTLY TO FALCON FIELD DIRECTLY 27 MI AHEAD TO LAND AND RE-CLOSE THE DOOR. IN ADDITION I REQUESTED DSCNT CLRNC. THE CTLR TURNED ME FROM MY PRESENT HEADING OF 160 DEGS TO 300 DEGS AND HAD ME DSND TO 8500 FT. (I PRESUME TO GET ME UNDER PHOENIX ARRS.) HE THEN HAD ME DSND TO 5000 FT AND TURNED TO A HEADING APPROX DIRECT FOR FALCON FIELD. HE ADVISED ME THAT SCOTTSDALE ARPT WAS DIRECTLY AHEAD AND ASKED IF I WOULD LIKE TO LAND THERE. I REACHED DOWN FOR MY CHARTS FOR SCOTTSDALE AND BEFORE I COULD ANSWER HE CLRED ME ON COURSE. IT WAS EVIDENT HE WAS HURRIED. I DECIDED TO LAND AT SCOTTSDALE. BY THE TIME I LOCATED THE FREQS I NEEDED; I FLEW THROUGH THE ARR CORRIDOR FOR RWY 21 AT SCOTTSDALE. I CONTACTED SCOTTSDALE TWR AND LANDED FROM A L BASE LEG. AFTER LNDG I RE-CLOSED THE DOOR AND WAITED FOR A TKOF CLRNC; THE TWR THEN ADVISED ME TO CALL THEM WHEN I REACHED MY DEST. AFTER TKOF I APPARENTLY WAS GIVEN A R 270 DEG TURN; I READ BACK 'HEADING 270 DEGS.' THE CTLR NEVER CORRECTED MY RESPONSE BUT IMMEDIATELY ASKED ME IF I HAD THE PHONE NUMBER FOLLOWED WITH ASKING ME IF I HAD A PENCIL TO COPY. EVENTUALLY I ADVISED THEM OF MY HEADING AND WAS GIVEN A TURN BACK TO COURSE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY HOME FIELD; I CALLED THE TWR AT SCOTTSDALE AND EVENTUALLY A GENTLEMAN ANSWERED. HE IMMEDIATELY INFORMED ME OF THE INFRACTION AND THAT HE INTENDED TO VIOLATE ME. I EXPLAINED THE SIT TO HIM TO NO AVAIL. HE INFORMED ME HE FLEW CPR JETS AND 'WHAT WAS HE TO TELL THE CPR PLTS WHEN AN INTRUDER CROSSES THE ARR PATH?' I ADMITTED MY INDISCRETION AND OF COURSE UNDERSTAND THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE SIT. I ASKED HIM IF I CAUSED A TFC CONFLICT; AND HE SAID 'NO.' HE TOOK MY NAME AND ADDRESS; PHONE NUMBER AND LICENSE NUMBER. HE THEN TOLD ME HE WOULD CONFER WITH APCH CTL BUT SEEMED SET ON ISSUING A VIOLATION. IN RECREATING THE SIT; I SHOULD HAVE IMMEDIATELY TOLD THE CTLR I WISHED TO LAND AT SCOTTSDALE WHEN HE ASKED; SINCE YOU COULD TELL HE WAS QUITE BUSY. SECONDLY; I SHOULD HAVE CIRCLED TO MY L UNTIL I MADE CONTACT WITH THE TWR FOR CLRNC TO ENTER THE CLASS D AIRSPACE. THIS WAS SIMPLY A TIME COMPRESSION. I AM A RETIRED AIRLINES CAPT WHO RESPECTS THE NEED FOR COMPLIANCE AND UNDERSTANDS THE CRITICAL JOB THAT IS PERFORMED BY CTLRS. REGRETFULLY; BEING ALONE AND CONCERNED WITH THE DOOR SIT I ALLOWED THE ACFT TO XSIT THE APCH CORRIDOR WHICH I CAN OFFER NO EXCUSE FOR. MY ONLY THOUGHT WAS WHEN I REQUESTED THE DSCNT; I WAS ANTICIPATING A GRADUAL DSCNT TO FALCON IN A STRAIGHT LINE AT A REDUCED AIRSPD TO PREVENT THE DOOR OPENING. THE CHANGE OF HEADING TO 300 DEGS PUT ME IN THE VICINITY OF SCOTTSDALE WHICH SUGGESTED THAT I LAND THERE; THE CLOSEST ARPT.
