Narrative
ENTERED FROM S AND CALLED CTL -- NO ANSWER. NEW DIGITAL RADIO AND LIGHTS WENT OUT ON 2 DIGITS. STILL HAD CORRECT FREQ BUT NO REPLY; SO I ANNOUNCED 5 MI OUT OF INTENTIONS AND ANNOUNCED ENTERING OF DOWNWIND. NEVER COULD GET REPLY; SO I KEPT ANNOUNCING ALL INTENTIONS -- BASE; FINAL; CLRING; THEN PARKED IN FRONT OF OPS TO GET GAS. ASKED LADY IF TWR WAS OPEN AND SHE SAID IT SHOULD BE. SO AFTER GAS; DIALED UP CLRNC (GND) AND IT WORKED. THEY GAVE ME CLRNC TO TAXI TO ACTIVE. AT ACTIVE; I CALLED ON ALL FREQS AND COULD GET NO REPLY. THOUGHT MAYBE TWR WAS CLOSED SO I ANNOUNCED ON ALL FREQS THAT I WAS TAXIING TO ACTIVE AFTER CLRING ALL WAYS AND AFTER A TRUCK CROSSED ACTIVE RWY. TOOK OFF AND HEARD TWR CALL MY NUMBER. TRIED TO REPLY ON THEIR FREQ AND ALSO ON GND FREQ; BUT COULD NOT GET REPLY. CALLED THEM (TELEPHONE) NEXT DAY. WAS TOLD I WAS RPTED. AM GETTING RADIOS LOOKED AT; ALTHOUGH THEY ARE BRAND NEW. EVENT HAS BEEN VERY DISTURBING TO ME BECAUSE I WAS TOLD TO UPDATE MY OLD RADIOS TO NEW ONES; WHICH I DID. WILL REPLY TO YOU WHAT THE FAULT OF RADIOS WAS; AND WHY. HAD BFR IN FLORIDA 2 WKS AGO AND INSTRUCTOR WAS VERY STRICT AND THOROUGH (COMPLETE). WENT OVER EVERYTHING.
