B767 CREW HAD A NOSE GEAR STEERING PROB AND RPTED NOSE GEAR FIRE WHILE TAXIING TO THE GATE.

Narrative

AFTER A NORMAL LNDG AND ROLLOUT ON RWY 4R; WE WERE TAXIING ON TXWY D; AND WHILE INITIATING A R TURN ONTO TXWY D1 THE ACFT BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO TILLER INPUTS. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED; THEN THE TURN WAS RECOMMENCED AT A VERY SLOW RATE. LOUD NOISES AND VIBRATION CAME FROM THE NOSE GEAR; AND STEERING WAS POOR; SO; I AGAIN STOPPED ACFT; SET BRAKES; AND CALLED FOR A VISUAL GND INSPECTION. GND CTL QUERIED A PASSING ACFT; WHICH RPTED SMOKE FROM THE NOSE GEAR. WE REQUESTED FIRE EQUIP; STARTED APU; SHUT DOWN ENGS AND ALERTED FLT ATTENDANTS; AS A PRECAUTION. SHORTLY AFTER; ANOTHER ACFT ADVISED OUR NOSE GEAR WAS NOW AFIRE. WE ADVISED ATC WE WERE EVACUATING; ALERTED THE CABIN; AND PERFORMED APPROPRIATE CHKLIST. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 540183: NORMAL LNDG AND ROLLOUT ON RWY 4R; TAXIING ON TXWY D; WHILE INITIATING THE TURN ONTO TXWY D1; THE PLANE DIDN'T RESPOND TO THE CAPT'S TILLER INPUT AND SKIDDED. CAPT BROUGHT THE PLANE TO STOP AND RECOMMENCE THE TURN. DURING THE TURN LOUD VIBRATION NOISE WAS HEARD; SO WE STOPPED AGAIN AND SET THE BRAKES AND CALLED FOR A VISUAL CHK BY GND EQUIP. PAX WERE INFORMED AND MAINT AND DISPATCH WERE NOTIFIED. SHORTLY A PASSING AIRPLANE RPTED SMOKE. FLT ATTENDANTS WERE ADVISED TO BE ALERT. VERY SHORTLY ANOTHER PLANE RPTED FIRE FROM NOSE GEAR AREA. CAPT CALLED FOR EVAC CHKLIST AND PROCEEDED TO ADVISE ATC AND COMPLETED EVAC CHKLIST. ALL PAX AND CREW EVACED SAFELY.
