Synopsis

A NEAR GND COLLISION BTWN THE GND CREW'S TUG AND THE B767 ABOUT TO LEAVE THE GATE AT JFK; NY.

Narrative

PUSHED BACK FROM THE GATE WITH AUTOTHROTTLES DEFERRED; AND HAD A SPD FLAG ON THE ADI. STAYED WITH GND CREW AND CALLED MAINT COORDINATOR; WHO HAD US START ENGS AND PULL AND RESET A THRUST MGMNT COMPUTER CIRCUIT BREAKER; THEN MAKE A WRITE-UP. BY THIS TIME; 2 INBOUND ACFT WERE WAITING FOR US TO CLR TO ACCESS THE GATE AREA. GND CREW WERE STILL CONNECTED; BUT IT HAD BEEN 10 MINS SINCE WE HAD SEEN OR HEARD FROM THEM; AND CAPT CALLED FOR TAXI CLRNC; WHICH WE GOT; THEN RELEASED BRAKES BEFORE SALUTE AND RELEASE FROM GUIDANCE. IMMEDIATELY REALIZED ERROR AND RESET PARKING BRAKE. GND CREW CONFIRMED ALL WAS NORMAL; DISCONNECTED; AND GAVE SALUTE AND RELEASE. DEBRIEFED THOROUGHLY. ABNORMAL OPS CAUSED US TO GET OUT OF SEQUENCE AND PICK UP IN THE FLOW WITHOUT COMPLETING THE BEFORE TAXI-OUT SEQUENCE WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE THE GND CREW; AND WORKING MAINT PROB WITH MAINT COORDINATOR ON RADIO MADE IT VERY EASY TO FORGET THEY WERE STILL PLUGGED IN AFTER SUCH A LONG DELAY. SERIOUS LESSON LEARNED.
