A PA28 PLT; ATTEMPTING A XWIND LNDG AT PRC; INITIATED A GAR WHEN STAYING ON THE RWY WAS IN DOUBT.
Narrative
WAS FLYING R SEAT (SOLO) FOR THE FIRST TIME. WAS INBOUND FROM THE N. WINDS WERE 140 DEGS AT 12 KTS. RWY 12 WAS IN USE; BUT TWR OFFERED ME LNDG ON RWY 21 AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 12. AT ABOUT 10 FT AGL; ACFT WAS IN A POS TO SIDE-LOAD BADLY; BUT I CONTINUED WITH THE LNDG. THE ACFT TOUCHED DOWN ON 1 WHEEL AND BOUNCED BADLY; COMING DOWN HARD ON THE OTHER WHEEL. ALTHOUGH I SHOULD HAVE GONE AROUND AT THIS POINT; I CONTINUED TO TRY AND SALVAGE THE LNDG. THE ACFT CONTINUED TO BOUNCE FROM WHEEL TO WHEEL COMING VERY CLOSE TO RWY EDGE. REALIZING I WASN'T GOING TO GET THE ACFT ON THE GND; I FINALLY WENT AROUND; FLYING DIRECTLY OVER THE ACTIVE RWY. LNDG ON THE ACTIVE RWY WAS UNEVENTFUL; BUT UPON TAXI IN; I DISCOVERED THE R BRAKE TO BE INOP AND THE RUDDER PEDAL TO HAVE A 'MUSHY' FEEL. REFLECTING BACK ON THE EVENT; I THOUGHT THAT SINCE THE REST OF THE FLT HAD GONE SO WELL; I COULD PULL OFF THE LNDG. I FEEL THAT I WAS TOO QUICK TO ACCEPT THE LAHSO CLRNC. I HAD DONE SIMILAR XWIND LNDGS BEFORE; BUT NEVER FROM THE R SEAT. I WAS FEELING VERY COCKY AND THIS; IN FACT; NEARLY CAUSED A LOT MORE DAMAGE THAN WHAT ACTUALLY OCCURRED.
