C152 PLT HAD A RWY INCURSION AT LGB.
Narrative
ON MAR/THU/02; I WAS TAXIING BACK ON AN INACTIVE RWY (RWY 16R) AT LGB ARPT; AND I INADVERTENTLY TAXIED ACROSS AN ACTIVE RWY 25L; CAUSING A RWY INCURSION. THE TWR CALLED ME AND HAD ME CONTACT THEM. THIS TOOK PLACE AT APPROX XA15. I WAS TAXIING S ON RWY 16R; R OF THE INACTIVE RWY CTRLINE AS INSTRUCTED BY GND CTL 133.0. THE INSTRUCTION FROM GND; AFTER I HAD FINISHED A PRACTICE APCH AND HAD LANDED ON RWY 30; WAS TO TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD (W) AT TXWY G; THEN TURN L ON THE INACTIVE RWY; AND TAXI TO CROSS RWY 25L. I READ BACK THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND TO 'TAXI STRAIGHT AHEAD; L TURN ON THE INACTIVE RWY (WHICH WAS RWY 16R); AND TAXI TO RWY 25L' AND I PRESUME TO 'HOLD AT RWY 25L.' BUT I DID NOT HOLD. SOMEHOW I DO NOT RECALL THAT PART OF THE TAXI INSTRUCTION. WHEN I ENCROACHED UPON THE ACTIVE RWY 25L; I REMEMBER THERE WAS AN ACFT ON FINAL FOR RWY 25L; ABOUT OR AT LEAST 1/2 MI TO MY L. THERE WAS NO COLLISION POSSIBILITY IN MY OPINION; AND NO ACFT HAD TO GO AROUND. THE ACFT ON FINAL TO RWY 25L WAS A LONG WAY FROM ME. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE GND CTLR HAD ME TAXI ON RWY 16R (INACTIVE); AND NOT ON TXWY B; WHICH WOULD BE SAFER; IN MY OPINION. THERE ARE NO YELLOW HOLD SHORT MARKINGS OR RED AND WHITE SIGNAGE TO ALERT A PLT WHEN HE COMES TO THE INTERSECTING RWY. THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE ME; BUT I THINK IT WAS A FACTOR WHY I CROSSED RWY 25L. ALSO; DURING THIS TIME; THERE WAS GND TFC ON GND AND I WAS TRYING TO BE CAREFUL; AND WATCH FOR THEM. THE GND CTLR HAD ME KEEP TO THE R OF THE INACTIVE RWY CTRLINE; BUT I DO NOT RECALL WHY. I THOUGHT THAT TO BE ODD. THERE WERE NO ACFT ON RWY 16R INACTIVE; EXCEPT ME. WHEN I CROSSED RWY 25L (ABOUT 1/2 WAY); THE TWR (GND) TOLD ME OF MY ERROR; AND I IMMEDIATELY ADMITTED MY MISTAKE. THERE WAS ANOTHER CESSNA ON TXWY F; GOING E; BUT HE WAS NO FACTOR FOR ME. IN RETROSPECT: I HAVE LEARNED TO READ BACK ALL INSTRUCTIONS BETTER; AND FOLLOW LAHSO CLOSER. I THINK THAT ACFT SHOULD TAXI ON TXWYS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE; TO AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF INCURSIONS FROM HAPPENING. IN THE SIT I WAS IN; I WAS AT FAULT; BUT I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE TAXIED ONTO RWY 25L IF I HAD BEEN ON TXWY B. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS INCURSION WITH OTHER PLTS AND MY FLT INSTRUCTOR. IT WAS A PAINFUL; BUT VALUABLE LESSON TO LEARN.
