C425 PLT ENTERS SDL CLASS D AIRSPACE WITHOUT A CLRNC AND RECEIVES UNNECESSARY VERBAL CHASTISEMENT.
Narrative
I WAS NEW TO THIS ARPT AND TOLD APCH I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH AREA. HE WAS GIVING ME HDG TO ARPT. AT 6 NM; I SAW SCOTTSDALE ARPT. APCH TOLD ME TO SQUAWK 1200 AND CONTACT THE TWR. I CALLED 6 MI OUT WITH ALT AND ATIS; INFO FOR LNDG; R BASE RWY 21. I GOT NO REPLY. MY AIRSPD WAS 120 KTS. THE NEXT THING I HEARD WAS A GARBLED XMISSION FROM ANOTHER ACFT TRYING TO CALL THE TWR. THIS GARBLED XMISSION WENT ON FOR 10 SECONDS. THEN THE TWR CTLR SAID HE WAS UNABLE TO COPY WHOEVER WAS CALLING HIM. THEN ANOTHER GARBLED XMISSION CAME FROM THE SAME ACFT AND ANOTHER EXCHANGE FROM THE TWR. BY THIS TIME; I WAS CLOSING IN ON THE ARPT AT 3600 FT AND HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET RESPONSE FROM MY FIRST CALL. SO I TURNED R 180 DEGS TO GET OUT OF ANY POSSIBLE CONFLICTS. AS I WAS IN THE TURN HEADING AWAY FROM THE ARPT TO THE NW; THE RADIO CONVERSATION BTWN TWR AND GARBLED ACFT STOPPED. SO I TRIED CONTACTING TWR AND ASKED IF HE COPIED ME. HE SAID YES; AND I GAVE HIM MY LOCATION AND HE SAID 'YOU'RE 2 MI INSIDE MY AIRSPACE. IF YOU HAD BEEN HERE 2 MINS AGO; YOU WOULD HAVE MESSED THINGS UP' WITH A VERY LOUD AND MAD VOICE; TELLING ME HE WAS REALLY MAD AT ME. I ASKED IF HE WANTED ME TO RPT OVERHEAD THE ARPT FOR L TFC ON R BASE RWY 21. HE SAID 'MAKE R DOWNWIND TO FOLLOW ANOTHER ACFT.' THEN HE PROCEEDED TO TELL ME I HAD DEVIATED FROM THE RULES OF COM WITH TWR. I TOLD HIM I HAD TRIED TO CALL AND THEN TURNED AWAY FROM THE ARPT. HER SAID 'IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION; CALL ME ON THE PHONE; AND FOR NOW; DON'T DO THAT AGAIN.' HE WAS SO MAD AND DEMEANING IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. IN THE FUTURE; I WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO STAY WELL OUTSIDE THE CLASS D AIRSPACE WITH GOING INTO NEW AND UNFAMILIAR AREA. P.S. IF THIS TWR HAD RADAR; THEN APCH SHOULD HAVE HANDED ME OVER TO THE TWR FOR TRYING TO FIND THE ARPT. AND MY ALT WAS WELL ABOVE THE TFC PATTERN WHEN I WAS COMING INTO CLASS D AIRSPACE.
