AN EMBRAER 120 ON APCH AT 4000 FT DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO LOSS OF PWR IN THE R ENG. CAUSE UNKNOWN.
Narrative
WHILE BEING VECTORED ONTO THE VOR/DME 14 APCH TO ZZZ ARPT; THE ACFT WAS LEVEL AT 4000 FT MSL WHEN IT SUDDENLY YAWED AND A NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN SOUND OCCURRED. WE LOOKED AT THE GAUGES AND SAW THAT THE #2 ENG TORQUE WAS INDICATING ZERO WITH FALLING OIL PRESSURE AND NP STABILIZED AT 72%. I THEN COMMANDED THE FO TO RUN THE INFLT ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST. I THEN TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT MANUALLY WHILE THE FO INITIATED THE ENG SHUTDOWN PROCS. AN EMER WAS DECLARED. I REQUESTED DELAY VECTORS WHILE THE FO RAN THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS. ALL CONCERNED PEOPLE WERE NOTIFIED INCLUDING THE FLT ATTENDANT; THE PAX; GND OPS AS WELL AS ATC. WE COMPLETED THE CHKLISTS AND PROCEEDED INTO RWY 14 VIA THE VOR/DME APCH ON 1 ENG. WE LOST VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE RWY TWICE ON THE APCH DUE TO HVY RAIN; BUT OTHERWISE WERE ABLE TO CONTINUE THE APCH USING VISUAL REF. THERE WAS A RATHER STRONG XWIND FROM THE L REQUIRING A SIGNIFICANT 'CRAB' TO THE L ON SHORT FINAL. HOWEVER; THE LNDG WAS SMOOTH AND BRAKING WAS DONE WITHOUT USING ANY REVERSE. A NORMAL TURN OFF THE RWY WAS MADE. WE REQUESTED THAT FIRE PERSONNEL INSPECT THE ENG VISUALLY FOR ANY FIRE OR DAMAGE. NONE WAS RPTED. WE THEN PROCEEDED TO THE GATE AND DEPLANED THE PAX NORMALLY.
