EMB145 CREW TURNED THE WRONG WAY TO FLY THE SID THAT WAS CHANGED AT THE LAST SECOND BY LGA LCL CTLR.

Narrative

ON MAR/TUE/02; AT APPROX XA40 ON FLT X MY FO AND MYSELF WERE NEXT IN LINE FOR DEP OFF OF RWY 13 IN LGA. WE HAD BEEN ISSUED THE WHITESTONE CLB ON THE LGA 9 DEP AND HAD BRIEFED OUR CLRNC. BOTH OF US HAD THE PRINTED CHART (TEXTUAL DESCRIPTION) OUT AND VISIBLE. TWR CTLR CLRED US INTO POS AND HOLD AND CHANGED OUR CLB TO THE CONEY CLB. WE RAN OUR LINEUP CHK AND WHILE I WAS POSITIONING THE ACFT THE FO READ OFF THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CLB. PART OF THE TEXT READS '...180 DEG HDG UNTIL INTERCEPTING THE CRI R-043...' I SET 043 DEGS ON MY HSI. AFTER DEP I INTERCEPTED THE RADIAL AND BEGAN TO TURN L TO TRACK IT. THIS DIDN'T SEEM CORRECT AND I LOOKED DOWN TO EXAMINE MY CHART AGAIN WHEN THE FO ALSO BROUGHT THIS TO MY ATTN. I HAD; BEING DISTRACTED; SET 043 DEGS ON MY HSI (AS I HEARD IN THE QUICK REBRIEF FROM MY FO) INSTEAD OF THE PROPER 223 DEGS TO TRACK INBOUND TO CRI. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN A RAPID TURN TO THE R TO GET BACK ONTO THE PROPER PROC (WE HAD ONLY TURNED 30 DEGS OR SO TO THE L; ABOUT A 150 DEG HDG). AT THIS TIME ATC ALSO ISSUED A R TURN. NO FURTHER ACTIONS WERE TAKEN; NO TCASII ALERTS ISSUED AND THE FLT CONTINUED TO THE DEST WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT OR POSSIBLE INTERVENTION. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: CHART ON YOKE WHILE FOLDED HIDES VISUAL DEPICTION WHILE STILL ABLE TO READ TEXT. CHANGE OF DEP PROC WHILE ENTERING THE RWY ENVIRONMENT FOR DEP. DISTR DURING REBIEF OF ENTERING RWY ENVIRONMENT AND SETUP FOR NEW PROC LEADING TO INCORRECT SETUP ON HSI. MIND PREPROGRAMMED/BRIEFED ON WHITESTONE CLB AND INFO INTERFERED WITH THE CONEY BRIEF (PARTLY CAUSED BY DISTR).
