Synopsis

AN ACR ACFT HAS AN ENG FAILURE JUST AFTER TKOF.

Narrative

TKOF ROLL WAS NORMAL. WE WERE LIGHT GROSS WT USING TEMP DERATE OF 45 DEGS BECAUSE THE TMC WOULD NOT ACCEPT 50 DEGS. V-SPDS WERE V1 114; VR 118; AND V2 124. AT 80 KTS; ENGS CHKED NORMAL AND ACCELERATION WAS RAPID; SO V1 CAME 1-2 SECONDS LATER. ROTATION WAS NORMAL AND ACFT ACCELERATED THROUGH V2 RAPIDLY. AT POSITIVE RATE OF CLB; GEAR WAS RETRACTED. AS GEAR WAS RETRACTING; A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD AND ACFT YAWED SLIGHTLY. AFTER SCANNING INSTS; COPLT AND I CONCURRED WE HAD LOST L ENG. WE CONFIRMED IT WAS THE L ENG AND R ENG WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AT TKOF PWR. WE COMPLETED THE AFTER TKOF CHKLIST AFTER ESTABLISHING A SAFE AIRSPD AND ALT AND DECLARED AN EMER WITH INTENT TO RETURN TO NASHVILLE. WE THEN COMPLETED THE ENG FAILURE CHKLIST. WE INFORMED THE FLT ATTENDANTS OF THE SIT AND CONFIRMED THE PAX COUNT TO RELAY SOULS ON BOARD TO NASHVILLE TWR. SINCE WE SUSPECTED POSSIBLE FOD INGESTION SO CLOSE AFTER GEAR RETRACTION; WE ASKED THE EMER EQUIP TO DO A FOREIGN OBJECT CHK OF THE RWY BEFORE LNDG. ALL DSCNT; APCH; AND LNDG CHKS WERE ACCOMPLISHED AND LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL ON RWY 20R. WE STOPPED STRAIGHT AHEAD AND HAD FIRE DEPT CHK FOR SECURITY OF TIRES AND CONFIRM NO SIGNS OF FIRE. AFTER WE CONCLUDED IT WAS SAFE TO TAXI; WE RETURNED TO THE GATE; ESCORTED BY FIRE EQUIP.
