A C210 PLT; CRUISING AT APPROX 1800 FT; EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF ENG PWR; LNDG IN A NEARBY FIELD.

Narrative

AFTER DEP FROM THE MOUNT PLEASANT ARPT (ABOUT 1-2 MINS) ON A PLEASURE FLT IN VMC; THE ENG CEASED GENERATING PWR. ALT WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 1500-2000 FT AGL. FUEL PRESSURE WAS NOTED AS NEAR ZERO. TANKS WERE SWITCHED (BOTH HAD AN ESTIMATED 30-35 GALLONS); WITH NO EFFECT. ELECTRIC BOOST PUMP WAS USED; WITH ONLY SLIGHT AND BRIEF EFFECT. AREA WAS SURVEYED FOR BEST SITE FOR OFF-FIELD LNDG. OPEN PASTURE WAS CHOSEN; DUE TO CONCERNS ABOUT UNSEEN LINES ACROSS AVAILABLE ROADS. TANKS WERE SWITCHED TO OFF; MIXTURE PULLED; AND FLAPS LOWERED WHEN FINAL TARGET CHOSEN AND ASSURED. GEAR WAS LOWERED; AS PLT ASSESSED THAT FIELD WAS DRY AND FIRM ENOUGH TO RISK GEAR DOWN LNDG. PAX WAS INSTRUCTED TO MOVE SEAT BACK AS FAR AS POSSIBLE; AND TO PULL SEAT AND SHOULDER BELTS AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE. AIRPLANE WAS TURNED INTO BEST COMPROMISE FOR INTO-WIND AND GND CONDITIONS. LNDG WAS EFFECTED AT SLOWEST SPD DEEMED PRUDENT; WITH STALL HORN ON. LNDG WAS FIRM; WITH SEVERAL CONSIDERABLE BOUNCES; AND ACFT WAS BROUGHT TO A STOP. NO INJURIES.
