COMMERCIAL PLT CERTIFICATE APPLICANT LANDED GEAR UP AT THE END OF AN UNSUCCESSFUL CERTIFICATION PRACTICAL TEST.

Narrative

C172RG DID NOT SUFFER SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AS DEFINED BY THE NTSB AND THEREFORE THIS IS NOT A RPTABLE ACCIDENT. APPLICANT KNEW BEFORE RETURNING TO ISP THAT HIS COMMERCIAL FLT TEST WAS DISAPPROVED DUE TO TKOFS AND LNDGS NOT UP TO COMMERCIAL CALIBER. WE WERE ON A 5 MI FINAL AND APPLICANT WAS GLUM. TO LIGHTEN HIS LOAD; I ASKED IF HE'D LIKE TO TRACK THE LOC AND EVENTUALLY GS FOR OUR STRAIGHT-IN; IF HE WANTED; I TOLD HIM IT WASN'T PART OF THE FLT TEST. HE COULD KEEP HIS HEAD INSIDE WHILE I SCANNED FOR TFC. HE DID WELL AND ABOUT 400 FT I TOLD HIM TO GO VISUAL AND DO A SOFT FIELD LNDG. ALL WENT WELL UNTIL THE PROP HIT THE RWY AND WE CAME TO A FULL STOP. NO INJURY TO US. EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES: THE LNDG GEAR WARNING HORN WAS DISREGARDED BY BOTH APPLICANT AND ME AS IT SOUNDED INTERMITTENTLY DURING TAXI AND MOST PHASES OF THE COMMERCIAL FLT TEST REGARDLESS OF SPDS AND GEAR UP OR DOWN. IF INST RATED PLT WAS NOT CONCENTRATING ON LOC AND GS PERHAPS GUMP CHK WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE. EXAMINER TOO BUSY LOOKING AT APCHING RWY.
