ALT CHANGE MISSED BY THE FLC OF A DC10-30 DURING A RERTE OVER THE NORTHERN CTL AREA OF EASTERN CANADA ON FREQ WITH CZEG; AB.

Narrative

NO CONFLICTS OR SEPARATION PROB. WE RECEIVED OUR ORIGINAL CLRNC (OCEANIC) FROM ICELAND RADIO. WE WERE TO GET FL350 BUT WERE ONLY GIVEN FL340. APCHING 070A; WE WERE GIVEN A RERTE CLRNC IN LATITUDE/LONGITUDE EVIDENTLY DUE TO A CHART LATITUDE/LONGITUDE ERROR. WE HAD DIFFICULTY UNDERSTANDING THE ORDER OF THE COORDINATES AND HAD TO READ BACK SEVERAL TIMES. WE THEN UPDATED OUR INS WITH THE NEW CLRNC. SEVERAL MINS AFTER THE CTLR ASKED US FOR OUR 070A RPT. WE GAVE IT AND SHE ASKED OUR ALT. WE SAID FL340. SHE SAID WE WERE TO CLB TO FL350 AND REISSUED THE CLB CLRNC. WE DID AND THE INCIDENT WAS OVER. WE USE A PLOTTING CHART FOR THESE LONG FLTS ALONG WITH HI CHARTS. THIS WAS A DIFFICULT RERTE AND IT OCCURRED AS WE APCHED A RPTING POINT. THE CTLR ISSUED THE CLRNC AS 68-80W; 66-90W AND I COPIED 6880N-6690W (WRONG!). WE GOT IT STRAIGHT WITH A COUPLE OF READBACKS. ALSO; IN THE CLRNC WAS AN INTXN ON THE CA HI 1-2 NOT ON THE CA HI 3-4. ALSO ON THE CA HI 3-4; 080A AND 080B HAVE THE SAME LATITUDE/LONGITUDE WHICH IS THE REASON FOR THE RERTE CLRNC. WE HAD NO WAY TO KNOW THIS. IT ALL WORKED OUT AND I AM GOING TO TRY TO IMPROVE MY ABILITY TO ASSIMILATE LATITUDE/LONGITUDE REFS TO OUR POS. ALSO; I'VE HEARD REFS TO INTXNS AS 070A; N6930-WO7000; N6930-702; ETC. WHEN YOU GET A RERTE SOMETIMES IT IS HARD TO FIGURE WHAT YOU'RE GETTING. ALSO; JUMPING FROM CHART TO CHART TO CHART DOES NOT HELP. OUR RERTE WAS 6930W-07000W; 68N-80W; 66N-90W; 63N-100W; ADVEX INTXN; AS FILED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 546688: THE LATITUDE/LONGITUDE INFO WAS DIFFERENT FOR THE SAME POINT ON DIFFERENT CHARTS. ARTIC RADIO ISSUED THE RERTE AND ALT CLRNC CHANGE AND WANTED A POS RPT. CHART CONFUSION AND POOR RECEPTION ON RADIO ADDED TO WORKLOAD.
