C441 PLT HAD A RWY INCURSION AT BTR CAUSED BY PAX DISTR.
Narrative
SINCE THE ENGS ON THIS ACFT ARE SO LOUD; MY NORMAL ROUTINE IS TO LEAVE THE RAMP AS SOON AS PRACTICAL AFTER ENG START. I GOT THE ENGS STARTED; SWITCHED ON THE AVIONICS AND CALLED FOR CLRNC BEFORE FINISHING CHKLIST ITEMS NORMALLY ACCOMPLISHED AFTER ENG START. AFTER RECEIVING IFR CLRNC; I IMMEDIATELY CALLED GND CTL FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND WAS GIVEN 'TAXI RWY 22R VIA TXWY E AND TXWY B; HOLD SHORT RWY 22L AT TXWY B.' TAXIING OUT; I WAS BUSY FINISHING UP CHKLIST ITEMS PAYING PARTICULAR ATTN TO DEICING EQUIP CHKS SINCE WE WERE XING WX TO GET TO CHICAGO. I WAS DISTR BY A NON PLT PAX IN THE COPLT'S SEAT AND FORGOT THE INSTRUCTION TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22L AND CROSSED THE RWY. I HAD INTENDED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 22R IN THE CONFUSION SINCE THIS WAS A COMMON INSTRUCTION IN BTR. RWY 22L IS THE SMALL RWY. THE GND CTLR CALLED AS SOON AS I CROSSED THE RWY TO REMIND ME OF MY MISTAKE. CORRECTIVE ACTION: 1) WHEN I AM GIVEN TAXI INSTRUCTIONS; I INTEND TO PUT THE CHKLIST AWAY UNTIL I GET TO THE RUN-UP AREA. 2) MOST OF MY FLYING IS SINGLE PLT. I ALWAYS FIND IT DISTRACTING WHEN FLYING WITH ANOTHER PLT OR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO HELP OR ASK QUESTIONS IN THE R SEAT. I INTEND TO ASK MY COPLT OR R SEAT PAX NOT TO HELP WITH THE SET-UP OR ASK QUESTIONS THAT ARE NOT CRITICAL TO SAFETY FROM THE TIME WE START OUR TAXI UNTIL I TELL THEM IT IS OK. 3) WHILE TAXIING; I INTEND TO ASK MYSELF IF I AM CLRED TO CROSS THE RWY WHENEVER APCHING A RWY XING. IF NOT POSITIVELY SURE; I WILL VERIFY WITH GND CTL.
