Synopsis

A B737-700 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH DOOR 2L EMER SLIDE ASSEMBLY INSTALLED WITH THE INCORRECT GIRT BAR.

Narrative

DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF 3-DOOR MOUNTED SLIDE ASSEMBLIES; I WAS WORKING WITH ANOTHER EXPERIENCED ACFT TECHNICIAN AND AN INSPECTOR. I HELPED INSTALL THE R-1 DOOR SLIDE ASSEMBLY. I INSTALLED THE R-2 DOOR SLIDE ASSEMBLY. I DID NOT INSTALL THE L-2 DOOR SLIDE ASSEMBLY. I SIGNED PAPERWORK FOR ALL 3-DOOR SLIDE INSTALLATIONS. THE FLC ASSIGNED TO THE ACFT HAD DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO INSTALL THE GIRT BAR FOR THE L-2 DOOR SLIDE ASSEMBLY AND NOTIFIED MAINT CTL VIA COMMERCIAL RADIO. THE GIRT BAR WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED CAUSING A FLT DELAY; AT THE SCHEDULED ARR STATION; WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD PLACED TRUST IN THE OTHER 2 INDIVIDUALS; WITH WHOM I WAS WORKING WITH AT THE TIME. I FELT CONFIDENT IN THEIR ACFT MAINT PRACTICES TO COMPLETE THE PAPERWORK FOA THE INSTALLATION OF THE L-2 DOOR SLIDE ASSEMBLY. I FELT THEY WERE BOTH QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALS AND THAT THIS WAS AN OVERSIGHT. ONE THING THAT COULD PREVENT THIS MATTER FROM HAPPENING AGAIN; IS THE SLIDE PACK ASSEMBLY BEING SHIPPED SVCABLE WITHOUT THE GIRT BAR. THIS WOULD CAUSE LESS CONFUSION AS TO WHICH GIRT BAR GOES TO WHICH DOOR AND WOULD CAUSE THE ACFT TECHNICIAN TO PHYSICALLY SWAP THE GIRT BAR FROM THE REMOVED DOOR SLIDE ASSEMBLY TO THE SVCABLE SLIDE ASSEMBLY BEING INSTALLED. THIS WOULD ELIMINATE ANY CONFUSION AND WOULD MAKE THE ACFT TECHNICIAN INSTALLING THE SLIDE ASSEMBLY AWARE OF THE GIRT BAR.
