FLC HAS RWY INCURSION; ACR INITIATES GAR.
Narrative
AFTER PUSHBACK; RAMP CTL CLRED US TO TAXI TO SPOT X. I USED THE 10-9B ARPT DIAGRAM AS A REF TO LOCATE THIS AREA. UPON REACHING THIS SPOT; I STOPPED THE ACFT AWAITING FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. DURING THIS TIME THE TAXI CHKLIST HAD BEEN STARTED BUT NOT COMPLETED. LAS GND CTL WAS CONTACTED AND WE WERE TOLD TO 'TAXI TO RWY 7L VIA TXWY D.' AFTER REFING THE 10-9B DIAGRAM; I BELIEVED I NEEDED TO CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD TO CROSS TXWY G TO INTERSECT WITH TXWY D. WE THEN STARTED TO TAXI AND RESUME THE TAXI CHKLIST. I KNEW WE HAD A GENTLE L TURN ONTO TXWY D SO WE STARTED TO MOVE AND I THEN BECAME INVOLVED WITH THE TAXI CHKLIST. WHEN I LOOKED OUTSIDE AGAIN I NOTICED AN ACFT APCHING FOR LNDG ON WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TXWY D. ALMOST AT THAT VERY INSTANT GND CTL ISSUED AN URGENT CALL FOR US TO STOP. I STOPPED THE ACFT JUST INCHES FROM THE RWY. THE APCHING ACFT INITIATED A GAR. WHETHER THE TWR INITIATED THIS GAR OR THE PLT DID; I DO NOT KNOW. IT WAS A WISE DECISION EITHER WAY. GND CTL ASKED IF I COULD MAKE A 180 DEGS FROM OUR POS AND TAXI BACK ONTO TXWY S. I SAID I COULD SO HE CLRED ME ONTO RWY 1R TO ACCOMPLISH THE TURN. WE WERE THEN TOLD TO RESUME OUR TAXI TO RWY 7L VIA TXWY D. I BELIEVE THAT THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY ACCOMPLISHING 2 THINGS. THE FIRST IS AFTER I STOPPED THE ACFT AT SPOT X I SHOULD HAVE REFED THE 10-9 ARPT DIAGRAM NOT THE 10-9B. THE BIG PICTURE SPEAKS VOLUMES FOR KNOWING WHERE YOU ARE. THE SECOND IS I BECAME TOO PREOCCUPIED WITH THE TAXI CHKLIST AND TKOF DATA AT A TIME WHEN I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE ATTENTIVE TO MY TAXIING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 549418: ON SHORT APCH TO RWY 1R LAS OBSERVED A DC9 ENTERING RWY FROM THE R ON TXWY P. HE APPEARED TO STOP; BUT HIS NOSE WAS OUT ON THE RWY. I INITIATED A GAR AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE TWR TOLD ME TO 'GO AROUND.' I WENT AROUND AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
