Narrative
THIS WAS MY FIRST TRIP TO THIS ARPT IN 10 YRS. THE RAMP WHERE I PARKED PUT ME LESS THAN 400 FT FROM THE NUMBERS ON RWY 11. THE HOLD SHORT LINES ARE FAINT AND NON STANDARD IN SIZE. I WAS FRUSTRATED AND EMBARRASSED TO HAVE LEFT WITHOUT THE NECESSARY; LOW ALT CHART. I RECEIVED MY IFR AND TAXI CLRNC FROM GND CTL; 'TAXI TO RWY 11.' I WAS THERE ALREADY BECAUSE OF THE PROX OF THE RAMP AND WHERE I HAD PARKED. I STARTED TO TAXI FOR TAKE OFF. THE TWR ADVISED I WAS ON THE ACTIVE RWY WITHOUT A TKOF CLRNC. I WAS SHOCKED AND SURPRISED. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT; I APOLOGIZED; RECEIVED A TKOF CLRNC AND DEPARTED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: A 'PAKN' TWR SPECIALIST REVEALED THAT THE RAMP/TXWY AREA ADJACENT TO THE APCH END OF RWY 11 EXHIBITS A RAMP LINE TO DIFFERENTIATE THE RAMP FROM THE RWY. A NON STANDARD HOLD SHORT LINE; ALONG WITH SIGN; IS DISPLAYED APPROX 1/4 THE DISTANCE OF TXWY A; AS YOU DEPART THE RAMP. THE NON STANDARD STATUS OF THE HOLD LINE IS NOTAMED AS; 'HOLD LINE PAINTED SURFACES ARE NON STANDARD.'
