B767 CREW ON APCH TO LAS LOST PROGRAMMED DATA FOR THE SKEBR 1 ARR TO RWY 25R.

Narrative

ON THE SKEBR 1 ARR; JUST PRIOR TO PASSING MISEN AT FL240; CAPT PUT IN THE NEW RWY ASSIGNMENT FOR LAS. WHEN HE DID THIS; THE BOX DUMPED THE REST OF THE ARR; SO I HAD NO NAV WAYPOINTS AFTER MISEN. BY THIS TIME WE WERE DSNDING THROUGH FL235; CLRED TO 13000 FT AT CLARR. CAPT QUERIED APCH CTL FOR DIRECT LAS VOR AND APCH ASKED IF WE HAD A PROB. WE ANSWERED NO; AND THE CTLR TOLD US TO STAY ON THE SKEBR 1. WHILE THIS WAS GOING ON I HAD ALREADY PUT THE NEXT 2 WAYPOINTS BACK IN THE BOX BY HAND (ATTEMPTS TO LOAD THE ARR ON THE DEP/ARR PAGE HAD FAILED; NO REASON WHY); SO WE HAD NAV THROUGH SKEBR WAYPOINT. WE CONTINUED THE DSCNT; AND I FINISHED LOADING THE REST OF THE ARR BY HAND. AT IPUMY ON THE SKEBR 1; WE STARTED A L TURN TO HUSOL; WITH THE FRANTIC LOADING OF THE BOX BY HAND WHILE MONITORING DSCNT AND SPD; I HAD LOADED THE ARR POINTS TO RWY 25R INSTEAD OF RWY 25L. AT THIS POINT; THE CTLR GAVE US A FRANTIC VECTOR FOR AN IMMEDIATE R TURN TO HDG 110 DEGS. WE COMPLIED; AND WERE VECTORED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE APCH. IT IS UNKNOWN WHY THE REST OF THE ARR DROPPED OUT OF THE BOX WHEN PUTTING IN A NEW RWY; BUT IT WAS THE PRINCIPAL FACTOR IN THIS PROB. ADDITIONALLY; THIS ARR IS WAY TOO COMPLEX; WITH 13 DIFFERENT WAYPOINTS DEPICTED AND DIFFERENT TRACKS FOR EACH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 553750: PROB BEGAN WHEN WE WERE GIVEN A RWY CHANGE. WE WERE ORIGINALLY LOOKING TO LAND ON RWY 1R WITH THE KASINO ARR. WHEN WE PUT IN THE NEW RWY (RWY 25L); THE ARR DUMPED FROM THE FMC. THE FO SCRAMBLED TO PUT ALL OF THE FIXES BACK INTO THE FMC FOR THE ARR AND IN THE PROCESS; PUT IN THE ARR FIXES FOR RWY 25R INSTEAD OF RWY 25L. WHEN WE MADE A TURN TO THE L INSTEAD OF A TURN TO THE R AT THE FORK IN THE ROAD; APCH GOT ALL EXCITED AND ASKED US WHERE WE WERE GOING. THEY SEEMED TO WANT TO ARGUE ABOUT IT RATHER THAN GET US POINTED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THEY FINALLY GAVE US A HDG TOWARD BOULDER CITY VOR AND A L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 25L. WE GOT LINED UP ; THEY GAVE US A VISUAL; AND WE LANDED. THERE ARE MORE NUMEROUS PROBS GOING ON IN LAS. FIRST; WE WERE THE ONLY ACFT WITHIN 40 MI AND THE COMPLEXITY OF THE ARR PROCS. IN FACT; WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED IN THE AREA; I ASKED FOR DIRECT LAS AND WE WERE DENIED AND THEY ASKED 'DO YOU HAVE A PROB?' I SAID NO; AND THEY SAID TO FLY THE SKEBR ARR. ONE OF THE MAJOR PROBS WAS THE CONFRONTATIONAL ATTITUDE OF THE CTLRS. THE SECOND WAS THE PROB WITH THE FMC DUMPING THE ARR WHEN WE PUT IN THE NEW RWY WHICH CREATED MUCH CONFUSION; AND THE THIRD IS THE COMPLEXITY OF THE ARR PROCESS FOR THIS ARPT. TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. PLEASE CALL ME AND I CAN DESCRIBE IN GREATER DETAIL. THIS PLACE IS A REAL PROB.
