AN A300 CREW; DEPARTING MIA; OVERSHOT THEIR ASSIGNED ALT.

Narrative

DEPARTED MIA RWY 26L WITH CLRNC TO 5000 FT; HDG 290 DEGS; THEN CLRED TO 7000 FT; HDG 360 DEGS; THEN 16000 FT HDG 090 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE VALLEY TRANSITION. FO WAS PF. ALL CLRNCS RECEIVED AND READ BACK AS ASSIGNED. IN THE TURN TO 090 DEGS AND PASSING APPROX 9500 FT; DEP CALLED TFC (A CARAVAN) AT 11000 FT. BOTH I AND CAPT HAD VISUAL WITH TFC 11-12 O'CLOCK POS; SLIGHTLY ABOVE. CAPT CALLED TFC IN SIGHT. DEP THEN GAVE A TFC CALL TO THE CARAVAN REF US; TELLING HIM WE WOULD BE LEVELING AT 10000 FT. AT THAT TIME; WE WERE STILL IN A R TURN; RAPIDLY APCHING 10000 FT AND CLBING APPROX 3000 FPM. TCASII ALERTED WITH 'TFC; TFC;' THEN 'MONITOR VERT SPD' AT APPROX 11000 FT; THEN 'CLR OF TFC' AT APPROX 12000 FT. DEP THEN ASKED OUR ALT AS WE PASSED APPROX 12500 FT. CAPT RESPONDED WITH PASSING ALT FOR 16000 FT. DEP SAID WE WERE CLRED TO 10000 FT AND THAT CKRNC TO 16000 FT WAS FOR ANOTHER ACFT (SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN). CAPT ASKED IF ANY ACTION WAS REQUIRED. DEP SAID NO SINCE WE WERE VISUAL WITH TFC AND CLR. I LOST SIGHT WITH THE TFC DURING THE TURN; BUT THE CAPT HAD THE CARAVAN IN SIGHT DURING THE WHOLE EVENT. THE CAPT AND I CONFERRED AND BELIEVE WE WERE FOLLOWING CLRNCS AS ASSIGNED.
