DC-9 FLT CREW CONCERNED ABOUT RWY CONDITION AT KBDL.

Narrative

I HAVE USED BDL RWY 6 MANY TIMES AND HAVE NOTICED A LARGE 'BUMP' MIDFIELD ON THE TKOF RUN. ON AUGUST/SUN/2002 DURING TKOF; WE WERE SUBJECTED TO THIS MIDFIELD BUMP ONCE AGAIN. MY OBSERVATION IS THAT THIS BUMP IS NOW A SAFETY CONCERN AS ITS 'MAGNITUDE' HAS INCREASED TO AN UNACCEPTABLE LEVEL. AS I AM AWARE OF THIS BUMP; I WAS SOMEWHAT PREPARED. WHEN THE ACFT CROSSED THE 33/15 INTERSECTIONS; THE NOSE GEAR WAS POUNDED WITH GREAT FORCE. THIS CAUSED CHART BINDERS AND UNSECURED OBJECTS IN THE COCKPIT TO FALL AND MOVE ABOUT. THE GALLEY IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BEHIND THE COCKPIT AND DISHES AND OTHER SUPPLIES WERE HEARD TO CRASH ABOUT. MY MAIN CONCERN; AND REASON FOR THIS RPT IS THE POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO THE ACFT AND CHANCE OF PARTS SEPARATING AND LITTERING THE RWY. ALSO OF CONCERN IS THE SURPRISE TO PLTS WHO HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS AT BDL BEFORE. AFTER TKOF AND AFTER CLB OUT I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CALL THE TWR BACK AND ASK IF THEY KNOW ABOUT THE BUMP ON RWY 6. THE RESPONSE WAS; 'YES AT THE INTXN OF 6 AND 33.' I ASKED IF ANYTHING WAS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT AND TOLD OF THE SEVERITY OF OUR TKOF. THE RESPONSE WAS 'WE HAVE TOLD THE COUNTY BUT THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT EVEN THOUGH OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. THE JOKE AROUND HERE IS THAT YOU MUST PERFORM A SOFT FIELD TKOF.' I BELIEVE A CALL TO THE BDL TWR FACILITY WOULD CONFIRM MY RPT. ALSO I BELIEVE THAT IF SO MANY OTHER PLTS HAVE RPTED THIS TO THE TWR; SOMETHING MUST BE DONE. IT IS HARD TO RELAY THE INTENSITY OF THE 'BUMP' BY MY WORD IN THIS RPT. I THINK HOWEVER THAT INVESTIGATION WOULD BE IN ORDER. I DID NOT KNOW ANY OTHER FORM TO RPT THIS; SO I CHOSE THE ASRS FORMAT.
