SMA TWIN PLT OVERSHOT TXWY TURNOFF ROUTING CAUSING HIM TO STAY ON IN ACTIVE RWY TO NEXT AVAILABLE EXIT.
Narrative
WAS CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 36L AT CLT. HAD TO KEEP SPD UP TO ACCOMMODATE FASTER JET TFC. ATC REQUESTED ME TO SPEND MINIMUM TIME ON RWY AND TO EXIT FIRST REVERSE HIGH SPD (E5). I WAS ABLE TO COMPLY AND HELD SHORT OF TXWY E. GND CTL'S TAXI CLRNC WAS TO TAXI ON RWY 5/23 TO TXWY F; TXWY A; TXWY R AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 4 ON TXWY A. I REALIZED FAIRLY SOON THAT I HAD PASSED TXWY F; ASKED GND IF I SHOULD CLR ON A4. ATC STATED I MISSED TXWY F AND TO CLR AT TXWY A4. RWY 23 WAS NOT AN ACTIVE RWY AT THE TIME. AFTER REVIEWING THE ARPT DIAGRAM AT CLT; IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLRER TO ME IF THE CTLR HAD STATED TO JUST CROSS RWY 23 AND JOIN TXWY F ON THE OTHER SIDE. THE ORIGINAL CLRNC (ALTHOUGH CORRECT) MISLED ME TO BELIEVE I WOULD BE SPENDING MORE TIME TAXIING ON THE RWY. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH ANY OTHER ACFT. I NOTICED UPON REVIEW OF COM CHARTS THAT 'INCURSION HOT SPOTS' ARE HIGHLIGHTED. THE NOS CHARTS ARE NOT. I WOULD HAVE FOUND THAT HELPFUL SINCE THE INCURSION OF MINE OCCURRED AT THE 'HOT SPOT #5' ON COM CHARTS. CLT ARPT HAS QUITE A LARGE NUMBER OF SHORT DIAGONAL TXWYS AND AS OFTEN AS I GO THERE I STILL OCCASIONALLY MISS A TXWY. I REALLY WONDER IF ALL THOSE TXWYS ARE NECESSARY. I REALIZE AT CLT THAT FAMILIARITY WITH THE ARPT TXWYS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
