Narrative
I WAS ON A GPS HEADING OF 093 DEGS TO GKY FROM Q24. AT 50 MI OUT I DSNDED FROM 5500 FT TO 3500 FT MSL. AT 20 MI OUT I DSNDED FROM 3500 FT MSL TO 1600 FT PATTERN TFC ALTITUDE. MY GPS SAID THAT I WAS OVER THE ARPT BUT I COULD NOT SEE IT. I REQUESTED RADAR VECTORING FROM FSS AND UNICOM BUT WAS NEVER SPOKEN TO EXCEPT BY FSS WHO GAVE ME ZFW; I THINK WHO INSTRUCTED ME TO SQUAWK 7700. I EXPLAINED I WAS NOT DECLARING AN EMER AS I HAD AT LEAST 1.5 HRS FUEL REMAINING. HE SAID SQUAWK 7700 SO HE COULD SEE ME. I DID AS INSTRUCTED. HE TOLD ME TO TUNE TO 135.XX?? I NEVER RECEIVED THE LAST 2 DIGITS OF THE FREQ HE WANTED ME TO TUNE TO. AS I WAS OVER A HEAVILY POPULATED AREA IN A HVY TFC AREA AND NO ONE WOULD GIVE ME THE RADAR VECTORING I REQUESTED; I ELECTED TO LAND AT AN ARPT I LATER DISCOVERED WAS MILLENNIUM AND WAS A PVT FIELD. I TOOK OUT MY TERMINAL AREA CHART; SAW WHERE I WAS AND WHERE ARLINGTON WAS; SO I RESET MY GPS AND FLEW DIRECTLY TO THE ARPT. I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY I COULD NOT SEE ARLINGTON FROM THE AIR ON THE FIRST APCH AS I FLEW JUST S OF IT ON MY INITIAL TRIP IN AND IT WAS OFF MY L WING AS I APCHED MILLENNIUM. I HAVE 20/15 VISION BUT I COULD NOT SEE THE ARPT AT 1600 FT MSL ON MY FIRST PASS.
