Synopsis

AN ACR MAINT DEPT AND A PLT HAVE A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION ON ENG LIMITS AND THE DEFINITION OF MAX PWR.

Narrative

ON THIS FLT; ACFT HAD A PREVIOUS WRITE-UP IN THE BOOK FROM 10 DAYS PRIOR WHICH STATED THAT DURING A MAX PWR TKOF; EGT REACHED 610 DEGS FOR 30 SECONDS! THE SIGNOFF WAS THAT IT WAS WITHIN LIMITS ACCORDING TO MAINT MANUAL. AFTER TALKING WITH COMPANY MAINT; I CALLED LCL MAINT AND THEY CAME OUT AND SHOWED ME THE PAGES IN THEIR MANUAL. AFTER AN EXTENSIVE CONVERSATION; THE MECH AND I AGREED THAT THERE WAS SOME CONFUSION OVER THE TERMINOLOGY OF THE WRITE-UP. ACCORDING TO THE CHART WE WERE LOOKING AT; WHICH SHOWED THE NORMAL TKOF PWR TEMPS; THE CORRECT MAINT ACTION WAS TO REQUIRE PLACARDING THE ARTS SYS. THEN I WAS TOLD THAT COMPANY MAINT DID NOT AGREE WITH THE TERM 'MAX PWR' BUT INSTEAD THOUGHT THAT THE SIGNOFF WAS CORRECT. ON THE S80; WE HAVE RESERVE PWR; MAX PWR; AND STANDARD PWR LIMITS. MAX PWR LIMITS ARE 595 FOR 2 MINS. HOWEVER; THE WRITE-UP HAD THAT THE TEMP HAD REACHED 610. MAINT TOLD ME THAT THE PLT WAS TALKING ABOUT A RESERVE PWR TKOF. THEREFORE; THE TEMP COULD BE AS HIGH AS 630 DEGS. THE LANGUAGE BTWN MY FLT MANUAL AND THE MAINT MANUAL APPEARS TO CONFUSE THE ISSUE. UNABLE TO REACH AGREEMENT WITH MAINT; I TOLD THE MECHS THAT I WAS UNWILLING TO ACCEPT THE ACFT.
