Narrative
TAXIING FOR TKOF. GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 6. HAD JUST LANDED AND DROPPED OFF A PAX. TAXI CHKLISTS WERE BEING COMPLETED. RAIN WAS MOVING TOWARD THE FIELD AND WAS REACHING THE BOUNDARY. I WAS DISTR BY THE INTENT TO HURRY THE DEP TO AVOID THE WORST OF THE WX MOVING TO THE FIELD. I WAS TAXIING TO RWY 24 IN ERROR. THE COPLT WAS REFING THE V-SPDS FOR OUR DEP WITH HEAD DOWN. AS I APCHED AN INTERSECTING RWY; MY COPLT QUESTIONED MY INTENTIONS. I WAS XING THE HOLD SHORT LINE OF THE XING RWY AND STOPPED MY ACFT JUST PRIOR TO ACTUALLY ENTERING THE RWY. WE ADVISED TWR AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO ENTER THE RWY TO COMPLETE A 180 DEG TURN AND RE-ENTER THE TXWY TO CONTINUE TO RWY 6. I DIDN'T ACTUALLY GET ON THE RWY WITHOUT THE CLRNC AND THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC ON OR NEAR THE XING RWY. NO EXCUSE! I WAS ATTEMPTING TO RUSH AND WAS PROCEEDING THINKING I WAS HEADED THE RIGHT WAY. I DIDN'T BRING THE TAXI DIAGRAM OUT AND DIDN'T CLARIFY MY INTENTIONS WITH MY COPLT. I HAD BEEN TO THIS ARPT TWICE SO IT WAS NOT COMPLETELY UNFAMILIAR. LESSONS: DON'T RUSH -- I'VE DELAYED DEP AT THE RWY THRESHOLD BEFORE; I CAN DO IT AGAIN. BREAK OUT THE TAXI DIAGRAM AND PLAN MY RTE BETTER; CONFIRMING THE ROUTING WITH MY COPLT. COMPLETE MOST OF THE TAXI CHKS PRIOR TO MOVEMENT AT UNFAMILIAR ARPTS.
