AN S61 HELI CREW; AFTER MAKING 3; PRESCHEDULED FLY-BYS OF STADIUM; HAD SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT HOW THE EVENT HAD BEEN ARRANGED.
Narrative
WE WERE ASSIGNED TO DO A FLY-BY AT STADIUM AT XA43 HRS; FOR A SPECIAL EVENT AT THE STADIUM WHICH WAS SPONSORED BY THE STADIUM. IT WAS COORDINATED THROUGH SEARCH AND RESCUE AND STADIUM MGR OF SALES WHO IN TURN NOTIFIED A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE CITY FIRE DEPT. THE FLT WAS COORDINATED TO BE A TOTAL OF 3 OVERFLTS; 2 FROM W TO E AND 1 N TO S. WE HELD ABOUT 3 MI TO THE W UNTIL THE SCHEDULE TIME. AT THE SCHEDULED TIME WE DID THE FLY-BY'S CIRCLING TO THE S AFTER THE FIRST W TO E PASS. WE WERE APPROX 400-500 FT ABOVE THE STADIUM LIGHTS AND 80 KTS OVER THE S SIDE OF THE STADIUM ON EACH OF THE W TO E PASSES. WE CIRCLED BACK TO THE N AND MADE THE FINAL PASS N TO S (CTR FIELD TO HOME BASE) PASSING OVER THE STADIUM SOUTHWALL LIGHTS AT APPROX 200-300 FT AND 80 KTS. THIS ACFT IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING 123% TORQUE ON 1 ENG; GIVING US A LARGE AMOUNT OF SAFETY MARGIN FOR LEVEL FLT. THE PWR THAT IS REQUIRED TO FLY STRAIGHT AND LEVEL AT 80 KTS IS 40% TORQUE (EQUIVALENT TO 80% TORQUE SINGLE ENG) AT THIS ALT AND OUR WT. A CONSIDERATION THAT WE THOUGHT AFTER THE FLT; WAS THERE COULD HAVE BEEN MORE COORD OF THE FLT PRIOR TO IT TAKING PLACE. THIS WOULD HELP ALLEVIATE ANY CONCERNS OR PROBS THAT PERSONS EITHER ON THE GND OR IN THE VICINITY WOULD HAVE ABOUT THE FLT. ONE WAY THAT THIS MIGHT BE ACCOMPLISHED; IS BETTER COMS BTWN OUR DEPT; AERO BUREAU; THE FAA; AND STADIUM OFFICIALS.
