Narrative

CALLED NASSAU GND FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS/CLRNC. TOLD TO TAXI FROM GEN AVIATION RAMP AND HOLD SHORT OF DEP END OF RWY 9/27. TAXIED 'LIMA' ACROSS RWY 32/14. RWY MARKINGS ARE FAINT IF PRESENT FOR DEP END OF RWY 9. ACFT WAS ON CENTERLINE OF DEP END OF RWY 9 PRIOR TO REALIZATION OF WHEREABOUTS. AFTER QUERY OF CTLR HE SAID 'NOT A PROB' WHEN WE MENTIONED BEING ON DEP END OF RWY 9. CONTINUED TAXI TO RWY 9 VIA 'HOTEL' 'FOXTROT'. FURTHERMORE; GND MARKINGS ARE FAINT AT ALL AREAS OF AIRFIELD. RWY 5 (NOW THE TXWY FOXTROT EXTENSION) MARKINGS STILL VIS; AS ARE ALL RWY 5 HOLD SHORT MARKINGS. HUMAN FACTORS (SITUATIONAL AWARENESS) AND POOR AIRFIELD MARKINGS ARE MAJOR CAUSE FOR DIFFICULTIES OF ACFT MOVEMENT WHILE ON GND AT MYNN. SIT CAN BE CORRECTED BY REPAINTING FADED OR NON EXISTENT MARKINGS AND DELETING CLOSED RWY NUMBERS AND MARKINGS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: A CONVERSATION WITH THE RPTR REVEALED LITTLE ADDITIONAL INFO; REITERATING THE NEED FOR BETTER RWY AND HOLD SHORT MARKINGS. ON A RECENT TRIP TO MYNN; DURING THE HRS OF DARKNESS; THE CREW WAS PARTICULARLY CAREFUL TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE HOLD LINES FOR RWY 27 ON 'HOTEL;' NONE WERE OBSERVED. HOWEVER; FADED RWY MARKINGS AND HOLD LINES; FOR CLOSED RWY 5/23; NOW BEING USED FOR A TXWY; ARE STILL PLAINLY VISIBLE.
