C177 PLT IS UNHAPPY WITH THE SIZE OF ACFT OPERATING INTO VNY AND DOES NOT LIKE THE POS OF THE REPAINTED HOLD SHORT LINES.
Narrative
I AM USING THE NASA ASRS TO RPT A VERY DANGEROUS SIT WHICH NOW EXISTS ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS AT THE VNY ARPT. RECENTLY; THE HOLDING LINES AT THE ENTRANCE AND EXITS TO THE MAIN RWY (RWY 16R/34L) HAVE BEEN MOVED FURTHER AWAY FROM THE RWY AND CLOSER TO THE MAIN TXWY G. THIS WAS APPARENTLY DONE TO COMPLY WITH VARIOUS FAA RULES REQUIRING MORE SEPARATION BTWN HOLDING ACFT ON TXWYS AND LARGE ACFT LNDG OR MAKING ILS APCHS. ACFT MUCH LARGER THAN THE ARPT WAS DESIGNED FOR; ARE NOW ROUTINELY OPERATING FROM THIS ARPT; WHICH APPARENTLY NECESSITATED THIS CHANGE IN THE POS OF THE HOLDING LINES. THE DANGEROUS SIT THIS HAS CAUSED; IS THAT THE HOLDING LINES ARE NOW AT THE EDGE OF THE MAIN TXWY. THERE IS NO PLACE BTWN THE RWY ITSELF AND THE MAIN TXWY FOR A LNDG ACFT THAT IS DEPARTING THE RWY TO STOP AND EITHER CHK FOR OTHER TXWY TFC; OR PROPERLY PERFORM AFTER LNDG CHKS PRIOR TO RECEIVING A TAXI CLRNC TO PARKING. IN ORDER TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE FARS THAT A DEPARTING ACFT EXIT THE RWY PAST THE HOLDING LINES; WE ARE THEN BLOCKING THE MAIN TXWY AND CAUSING A CONFLICT WITH ALL OTHER TAXIING ACFT. IN ADDITION; BECAUSE OF THIS PROB; IT IS NOW COMMON FOR THE TWR CTLR TO GIVE AN INSTRUCTION DURING LNDG SUCH AS 'KEEP IT ROLLING AFTER EXITING THE RWY AND CONTACT GND CTL.' A LOW TIME PLT THAT FLIES MY ACFT WAS GIVEN SUCH AN INSTRUCTION ON A NIGHT LNDG WITH ME A FEW DAYS AGO. THIS IS A COMPLEX ACFT; AND IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT AFTER LNDG CHKS BE PERFORMED WITH THE ACFT STOPPED. BECAUSE OF THIS SIT; IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE AN ACFT THAT IS EXITING THE RWY AT HIGH SPD BECOMES INVOLVED IN A GND ACCIDENT WITH ANOTHER ACFT THAT IS TAXIING ON TXWY G. IN ADDITION; IT IS ALMOST CERTAIN THAT THERE WILL BE ADDITIONAL 'GEAR RETRACTION AFTER LNDG' ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT OF THE TYPES OF TAXI CLRNCS NOW BEING ROUTINELY ISSUED TO AVOID CONGESTION. THE SIT IS DUE TO THE ABUNDANCE OF LARGER ACFT ON THIS FIELD; AND THERE IS NO ROOM TO SAFELY ACCOMMODATE THEM IN THIS MANNER.
