Narrative
SIT BEGAN AT FL280 IN CRUISE FLT. COM WAS WITH ZOB ON 118.62. ACFT WE WERE FLYING WAS A GIV. WE WERE ON AN ASSIGNED HDG OF 280 DEGS. NEXT INSTRUCTION WAS 'PROCEED DIRECT ASHEN; J60-GOSHEN.' PNF READ BACK 'DIRECT ASHER; J60-GOSHEN.' ASHER WAS LOADED INTO FMS AND ACFT SUBSEQUENTLY MADE APPROX 45 DEG BANK TO L. BOTH PLTS AGREED TURN WAS EXCESSIVE SO A SECOND CALL TO ATC WAS ATTEMPTED TO VERIFY PROPER INTXN BUT FREQ WAS COMPLETELY SATURATED. BEFORE WE COULD GET A CALL IN; ATC ADVISED US OF THE DEV AND INSTRUCTED AN IMMEDIATE TURN BACK TO A 280 DEG HDG. AT THE SAME TIME; WE RECEIVED AN RA; FOLLOWED QUICKLY BY A 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' ONE THING THAT MAY HAVE HELPED THIS SIT WAS IF THE CTLR HAD STATED THE INSTRUCTION AS 'FLY HDG 270 DEGS; WHEN ABLE DIRECT ASHEN J60 GOSHEN.' THIS WOULD HAVE GOTTEN US GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHILE WE FIND THE INTXN ON THE ENRTE CHART AND LOAD IT IN THE FMS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 561953: FLC PROGRAMMED ASHER IN FMS AND FOUND DISCREPANCY IN RTE OF FLT. ATC WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME AND THE FLC WAS UNABLE TO VERIFY SPELLING OF INTXN.
