POTENTIAL CONFLICT AFTER A RWY CHANGE NOT NOTED BY THE PIC OF A B737-300 WHILE MAKING A VISUAL APCH INTO DEN; CO.
Narrative
THIS RPT IS SUBMITTED TO DOCUMENT A LOSS OF SEPARATION. I AM A NEW CAPT IN THE B737. I WAS PAIRED WITH AN EXPERIENCED AND CAPABLE FO. WE SET UP FOR AN APCH TO RWY 35L AT DEN. THERE WAS NUMEROUS TFC IN THE PATTERN. WE WERE E OF THE FIELD AND BEING VECTORED TO THE W WHEN WE RECEIVED A VECTOR TO THE E. WE WERE FOLLOWING SEVERAL ACFT BEING SEQUENCED TO RWY 35L&R. WE WERE NOW E OF THE FIELD ON A DOWNWIND VECTOR OF 170 DEGS. WE WERE STILL SET UP AND PREPARED FOR AN APCH TO RWY 35L. WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE NUMEROUS TCASII ACFT IN THE VECTOR CORRIDOR WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR A BASE TURN. TWR RPTED 2 B757 ACFT AHEAD AS TFC. I WAS PF AND XCOCKPIT TO THE PATTERN AND TFC. WHEN APCH ASKED IF WE HAD THE TFC; THE FO SAID YES; AND WE WERE CLRED TO FOLLOW TFC AND MAINTAIN 170 DEGS TO FINAL. I DO NOT REMEMBER HEARING THE NAME OF THE FINAL BEING MENTIONED BY APCH. I SHOULD HAVE VERIFIED THIS. SUDDENLY; THE TWR BEGAN ISSUING WARNINGS ABOUT A DEAD COYOTE ON THE RWY. BUT I DON'T THINK THE RWY WAS IDENTED AND NUMEROUS INQUIRIES ERUPTED OVER THE FREQ. THERE WAS A STRONG R TO L XWIND; SO I INCREASED MY TURN TO FINAL WHEN I NOTICED TFC AHEAD AND TO THE L. I TURNED AWAY FROM THE TFC AND THEN GOT AN RA TO DSND. WE FOLLOWED THE RA AND IT ENDED IN A FEW SECONDS. WE LANDED RWY 35R.
