RWY 36 INCURSION BY AN SF340 FLC WHEN THE CREW'S PERCEPTION IS THROWN OFF BY THE ARPT LAYOUT AT CMI; IL.
Narrative
OUR ACFT WAS CLRED TO LAND AT CMI AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT ON RWY 22. ATC (LCL) INSTRUCTED US TO EXIT THE RWY AT THE END AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 18 AND CONTACT GND CTL. AS WE TAXIED OFF RWY 22; WE MISTAKENLY CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE TO THE APCH OF RWY 18. WE BELIEVED THE HOLD SHORT LINE WAS A LITTLE FARTHER DOWN ON TXWY B BECAUSE TXWY B AND RWY 18 NEVER INTERSECT AND WE HAD NOT PASSED THE APCH END OF RWY 18/36. ATC NOTIFIED US OF OUR MISTAKE AND WE TAXIED TO THE RAMP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. WE REALIZED IT WAS ENTIRELY OUR FAULT AND SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AFTER EXITING RWY 22 TO BE BETTER ORIENTED. ONE DECISION THAT I MADE CONTRIBUTED TO THE OCCURRENCE: AFTER LNDG AND CLRING THE RWY; I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN THE AFTER LNDG CHKLIST. I SHOULD HAVE PAID MORE ATTN TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHILE WE WERE TAXIING -- AT LEAST UNTIL WE WERE IN A LESS CONGESTED AREA. ONE IDEA THAT MIGHT HELP PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN IS TO INSTALL FLASHING LIGHTS AT ALL RWY HOLD SHORT LINES. CMI HAS 3 RWYS AND THEY ALL INTERSECT AT ONE POINT.
