A B767-300ER WAS FOUND IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A FLT ATTENDANT'S SEAT DEFERRED IN ERROR WITH A 10 DAY REPAIR LIMIT. IT HAD EXCEEDED THE CORRECT 3 DAY REPAIR LIMIT.

Narrative

ON DEC/THU/02; I WAS ADVISED THAT A FLT ATTENDANT JUMPSEAT AT THE L2 DOOR WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE DEFERRED UNDER MEL 25-25-01A. THE SEAT WAS A REQUIRED FLT ATTENDANT JUMPSEAT AND NOT THE ONE INBOARD TO IT. DISPATCH APPROVAL WAS GIVEN BY THE DISPATCHER; AND I ADVISED THE MAINT CTLR TO GO AHEAD AND PLACE IT ON MAINT CARRYOVER. WHEN THE LOG SHEET CAME OFF THE PRINTER; I WENT AHEAD AND RESTR THE ITEM. I HAD REVIEWED THE MEL PRIOR TO THIS; BUT WHEN I RESTR THE ITEM; I MADE IT A C REPAIR CATEGORY (10 DAY) INSTEAD OF A B CATEGORY (3 DAY) INADVERTENTLY. I AM NOT SURE HOW THAT HAPPENED AND HAD A FEELING SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ITEM; BUT NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO GO BACK AND CHK. I WAS ADVISED ABOUT THE INCORRECT REPAIR CATEGORY ON DEC/TUE/02 WHEN THE OUTBOUND FLC QUESTIONED THE ITEM. I IMMEDIATELY GNDED THE ACFT UNTIL THE PROB WAS RESOLVED; SINCE THE ITEM HAD ALREADY EXPIRED ON DEC/SUN/02 UNDER ITS CURRENT STATUS. THE FLT WAS SWAPPED TO ANOTHER ACFT; AND A DELAY WAS TAKEN. THE BROKEN FLT ATTENDANT SEAT (REQUIRED) WAS SWAPPED WITH AN EXCESS SEAT LOCATION; AND THE MEL WAS CHANGED TO REFLECT THE NEW MEL WITH THE ORIGINAL DAY OF DISCOVERY.
