A B737-800 PIC ABORTS HIS TKOF AT LOW SPD AFTER THE NEW SECURITY COCKPIT DOOR LIGHT HAD INDICATED THAT IT WAS UNLATCHED AND THEN POPPED OPEN UPON PWR APPLICATION AT ATL; GA.
Narrative
ON THE NIGHT OF JAN/XA/03; I WAS OPERATING ACR X FLT FROM ATL TO MSP. WHILE TAKING THE RWY AFTER BEING CLRED ONTO HOLD; MY COPLT TOLD ME WE HAD A COCKPIT DOOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. KNOWING AND SEEING THAT THE DOOR WAS PHYSICALLY CLOSED AND CONSIDERING OUR POS ON THE ACTIVE RWY; I MADE THE DECISION TO PROCEED AND HANDLE THE LIGHT AFTER TKOF. WE WERE IMMEDIATELY CLRED FOR TKOF; AND JUST INTO OUR INITIAL PWR-UP AND ACFT MOVEMENT; THE COCKPIT DOOR SPRUNG OPEN. I IMMEDIATELY RETARDED THE THROTTLES AND INSTRUCTED THE COPLT TO NOTIFY THE TWR THAT WE WERE DISCONTINUING THE TKOF AND TO REQUEST TO CLR AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE TURNOFF TO GET BACK INTO SEQUENCE; WHICH WE DID. AFTER CLRING THE RWY; WE DISCOVERED THE PROB -- THE KILL SWITCH ON THE DOOR FRAME HAD NOT BEEN SWITCHED ON. WE RESET THE SYS AND CONTINUED WITH OUR FLT. WITH THE NEW DOORS; A CHANGE IN THE CHKLIST IS NEEDED TO PREVENT THIS; AND IRONICALLY; UPON INVESTIGATING; I FOUND OUT A CHANGE IS ALREADY IN PROGRESS. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 572597: AFTER CLRING THE RWY; WE DISCOVERED THE RED GUARDED KILL SWITCH ON THE DOOR FRAME HAD NOT BEEN SWITCHED ON.
