A EMBRAER 120 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE FORWARD CABIN DOOR FALSE WARNING DEFERRED PER THE MEL; BUT THE EXTERIOR DOOR CHK WAS NOT ACCOMPLISHED.
Narrative
ON TAXIING OUT; WE RECEIVED A FORWARD DOOR LIGHT. WE CONFIRMED WITH THE FLT ATTENDANT THAT THE DOOR WAS CLOSED; AND THE PINS WERE LINED UP. WE CONTACTED MAINT CTL AND MEL'ED THE ITEM AND LOOKED AT THE MEL. I MISREAD THE MEL AND THOUGHT I ONLY HAD TO MASK THE ITEM. THERE IS A MAINT PROC TO CHK THAT THE OTHER DOORS AND ORAL SYS WORK CORRECTLY. AT OUR OVERNIGHT; THE NEXT PLT SHOWED ME I HAD NOT WRITTEN IN THE MAINT PROC 'COMPLIED WITH.' I REREAD THE MEL AND THEN COMPLETED THE MAINT PROC AND WROTE IN I HAD COMPLIED WITH IT. WHEN I FIRST READ THE MEL; IT SAID THE SYS COULD BE MASKED OR DEACTIVATED; AND WHEN I LOOKED AT THE MEL MAINT PROC; I SAW DEACTIVATED AND THOUGHT THE WHOLE PROC WAS FOR THAT. IT ALSO HAD MORE; TO CHK ALL THE OTHER DOORS AND AT THE END; IT SAID WE PLTS COULD DO THE PROC. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE OPERATIONAL PROC FOR THE PLTS TO DO. ON OUR CALL TO MAINT CTL; THEY NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THEM; OR US; CHKING ANYTHING OR GOING BACK TO THE GATE. THE MEL WAS CONFUSING AND THERE WERE NOT ANY INDICATIONS ON WHEN TO TAKE THE AIRPLANE BACK FOR MAINT TO LOOK AT IT.
