A B767-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT ENG RUN ACCOMPLISHED AFTER GEAR BOX SEALS REPLACED. REQUIRED HIGH PWR RUN.

A B767-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE INCORRECT ENG RUN ACCOMPLISHED AFTER GEAR BOX SEALS REPLACED. REQUIRED HIGH PWR RUN.
Narrative
IN RETURNING ACFT; R-HAND ENG BACK IN SVC; I CONSULTED WITH MY LEAD TECHNICIAN AS TO THE NECESSARY TESTS/CHKS. BOTH THE STARTER AND HYD PUMP AND START VALVE HAD BEEN REMOVED IN ORDER TO TEST FOR A HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION CONDITION AND TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF OIL USAGE. THE TESTS DONE WERE AN ENG START AND IDLE RUN AND LEAK CHK OF THE COMPONENTS REMOVED AS DETERMINED DURING CONSULTATION WITH LEAD TECHNICIAN. THESE WERE NOTED IN THE PWR PLANT TEST TABLE IN THE AMM. ANOTHER AMOUNT HAD ORIGINATED A WRITE-UP ITEM TO PERFORM A 'HIGH PWR RUN' DUE TO ITEMS #3 AND 4. AT THE INITIAL REVIEW OF THOSE ITEMS; IT WAS NOTED THAT THE STARTER; START VALVE AND HYD PUMP AND DRIVE SEALS WERE REMOVED AND REINSTALLED/REPLACED. THE PWR PLANT TEST TABLE REQUIRED ONLY AN IDLE RUN TO BE PERFORMED. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED; AND THE ACFT WENT BACK IN SVC. THE FOLLOWING THURSDAY; IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SHIFT; I WAS INFORMED BY MY LEAD TECHNICIAN THAT HE HAD DONE A 'PERSONAL REVIEW' AND REALIZED THAT WHEN A 'HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION' CHK IS ACCOMPLISHED; THE HORIZ DRIVE SHAFT IS REMOVED TO FACILITATE THE TOOLING USED. THE AMM REQUIRES A 'HIGH PWR RUN' TO BE ACCOMPLISHED. WE NOTIFIED TECHNICIAN SVCS TO FOLLOW UP WITH A HIGH PWR RUN ON #2 ENG ON THIS ACFT. THE AMOUNT THAT INITIATED THE WRITE-UP REFED BACK TO THE OTHER ITEMS AND WAS NOT SPECIFIC. ALSO; THE INFO EXCHANGED BTWN LEAD TECHNICIAN AND ACFT MAINT TECHNICIAN WAS INADEQUATE.
