A C425 PLT EXPERIENCES A HDG AND TRACK DEV AND ENTERS A RESTR AREA NE OF HEC; CA.

Narrative

I WAS RETURNING ACFT FROM FAT TO KSDL AT FL230 IN CLR AIR AND LIGHT TURB. THE ACFT HAD BEEN AT FBO FOR PHASE 2 AND 3 INSPECTION. AT THE SAME TIME; THE AVIONICS SHOP HAD INSTALLED A USED OVERHAULED COLLINS ADI-70C AND 332D-11T VERT GYROSCOPE AND A NEW RYAN 9900BX TCAD. WHEN I DEPARTED FAT; THE GYROSCOPE WAS WORKING PROPERLY. AFTER LEVEL OFF AT FL230; GYROSCOPE PRECESSED 6 DEGS DOWN PITCH AND AUTOPLT COULD NOT HOLD LEVEL FLT FOR MORE THAN 10-15 MINS. AFTER ABOUT 1 HR'S FLT OVER HECTOR VOR (HEC) THE ATTITUDE GYROSCOPE TUMBLED AND; UNNOTICED BY ME; THE HSI COMPASS PRECESSED ABOUT 35 DEGS TO THE L. WHILE TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROB AND FAST ERECT THE ATTITUDE GYRO; THE ACFT WAS IN A TURN TO A HDG THAT TOOK ME IN THE R-2501N RESTR AREA. THE ZLA CTLR GAVE ME A HDG OF 030 DEGS TO GET ME OUT OF THE RESTR AREA. AT THE TIME; MY HDG ON THE HSI WAS STILL AT 076 DEGS; AND I WAS UNAWARE OF THE COMPASS PRECESSION. WHEN I LANDED AT SCOTTSDALE; I CALLED THE X AVIONICS SHOP AND MADE THEM AWARE OF THE FAILURE; AND THEY CONTACTED Y AVIONICS TO REPAIR THE GYROS. I FEEL THAT DUE TO THE DISTR I EXPERIENCED WITH THE ATTITUDE GYRO; AND TRYING TO CORRECT THAT PROB; IT CONTRIBUTED TO ME BEING UNAWARE THE ACFT WAS IN A SLOW TURN TO THE S THAT PUT THE ACFT IN THE RESTR AREA.
