UNAUTH UNCOORD ENTRY; AIRSPACE INCURSION; WHEN A VFR C172 LOW-TIME PVT PLT CLBS PREMATURELY INTO THE CLASS B OF N90 AFTER DEP CDW; NJ.

Narrative

DEPARTING RWY 27 AT CDW ARPT; I FOLLOWED RWY HDG TO 1200 FT MSL PER NOISE ABATEMENT PROC. I WAS THEN CLRED TO TURN TO ON-COURSE HDG. I NOTIFIED TWR WHEN I WAS CLR OF THE CLASS-D AIRSPACE AND RECEIVED FREQ CHANGE TO VFR; AND CONTINUED CLB. I CALLED NEW YORK APCH TO REQUEST FLT FOLLOWING. ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT; THE CTLR RESPONDED AND NOTIFIED ME THAT I WAS IN CLASS B AIRSPACE. HE ASKED IF I WAS AWARE OF THAT; AND I REPLIED IN THE NEGATIVE. (I BELIEVED I WAS OUTSIDE THE SPACE.) HE REPLIED THAT SINCE I WAS THERE ALREADY; HE WOULD ACCEPT ME; AND HE ISSUED ME A XPONDER CODE. I WAS APPROVED TO CONTINUE MY ON-COURSE HDG AND CLB TO 4500 FT MSL. I ESTIMATE THAT I FLEW UP INTO THE FLOOR OF THE CLASS B FOR PERHAPS A MI OR 2. THE FLT CONTINUED UNEVENTFULLY UNDER FLT FOLLOWING. CONTRIBUTING FACTOR: CDW WAS EXTREMELY BUSY ON THIS DAY; AND BOTH TFC AND RADIO COMS WERE IMPACTED. TWR AND PLTS WERE ALL HAVING PROBS COMPLETING CALLS WHEN I ARRIVED. THERE WERE A LOT OF STEPPED-ON COMS; AND THIS CAUSED ME; ON DEP; TO CONCENTRATE ON BOTH AIR AND RADIO TFC. I WAS AWARE OF THE NEW YORK AIRSPACE; BUT DID NOT REALIZE I HAD ENTERED IT. AS IT WAS MY FIRST FLT TO CDW; I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH AREA LANDMARKS THAT DELINEATE THE AIRSPACE BOUNDARY. I AM FAMILIAR AND COMFORTABLE WITH CTLED AIRSPACE. PRIOR TO FUTURE FLTS; I WILL GIVE SPECIAL REVIEW TO PERTINENT; CTLED AIRSPACE AND CONCENTRATE ON ELIMINATING DISTRS.
