LOW-TIME C172 PLT LANDED AT A CLOSED ARPT; PNM.

Narrative

I HAD FILED A FLT PLAN WITH PRINCETON FSS FROM ST. CLOUD. THE FLT SVC STATION; AS I RECALL; DID NOT INFORM ME THAT THE PRINCETON ARPT WAS CLOSED. I KNOW THAT IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND ALL THE INFO RELATED TO THE FLT; BUT I DID NOT LOOK UP THE NOTAMS; WHICH WOULD HAVE PREVENTED MY DECISION TO MAKE A FLT OVER TO THE PRINCETON ARPT. I WILL MAKE A POINT OF COLLECTING NOTAMS FOR FLTS; WHICH I PLAN IN THE FUTURE FROM THIS INCIDENT. I HAD CONTACTED FLT SVC STATION ABOUT 10 MI OUT; AND PRINCETON RADIO GAVE ME THE CURRENT WX; SURFACE WIND; AND ALTIMETER SETTING. AFTER RECEIVING THIS; HE HAD STOPPED TALKING SO I THOUGHT HE WAS DONE; SO I SWITCHED THE RADIO TO THE UNICOM FREQ TO LISTEN FOR OTHER TFC. I LANDED THE PLANE. BEING FAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT; NOT SEEING THE NUMBERS; I ASSUMED THERE WAS SNOW ON THE RWY. I TOUCHED DOWN; AND THE SNOW WAS ABOUT AN INCH THICK. I CLRED RWY 33 AND TAXIED ON THE TXWY. I HAD CONTACTED PRINCETON RADIO AGAIN TO LET HIM KNOW THAT WE WERE GOING TO TAKE OFF AGAIN; AND THAT IS WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF ME; BUT I WAS NOT RESPONDING. HE WAS GOING TO TELL ME THAT THE ARPT WAS CLOSED AND HAD NOT BEEN PLOWED. I HAD TOLD HIM WHAT I HAD DONE AND WHY I DID NOT ANSWER; BECAUSE I TURNED TO THE UNICOM FREQ FOR OTHER TFC; AND HE HAD NOT TOLD ME ANYTHING LIKE STANDBY; HE JUST BECAME QUIET. I THEN ASKED HIM IF I SHOULD TAKE OFF OR STAY THERE. THE GUY TOLD ME IT WAS MY DECISION. I DECIDED TO TAKE OFF. I KNOW FROM GND SCHOOL THAT I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE OFF FROM CLOSED ARPTS; BUT I DID NOT WANT TO BE STUCK THERE. I HAD JUST RECEIVED MY PVT PLT'S LICENSE; AND I FEEL THAT I'M STILL LEARNING.
