PA28 STUDENT PLT; ON SECOND XCOUNTRY FLT; GOT LOST AND ENTERED DC ADIZ. PLT WAS INTERCEPTED BY A MIL JET FIGHTER.

Narrative

03/MAR/03; I WAS ON MY SECOND SOLO XCOUNTRY FLT. I STARTED OUT AROUND XA00 ON SATURDAY AND FLEW FROM WWD TO ENO AND THEN ONTO LNS. ON THE RETURN TRIP I WAS SUPPOSED TO USE THE SAME RTE IN REVERSE. I TOOK OFF FROM LNS AND THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS OK. I CROSSED ONE OF MY CHK POINTS AND CONTINUED ON. I WAS OVER THE WRONG CHK POINT AND DIDN'T REALIZE IT. (THE CHK POINT IS THE RIVER THAT RUNS AROUND THE RTE). PART OF MY PROB WAS OVER THE FACT THAT I WAS EXCITED TO BE HALF WAY FINISHED WITH THE XCOUNTRY TRIP. I FLEW ON AND BECAME 'LOST.' I LOOKED AROUND FOR LANDMARKS; BUT DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING FAMILIAR. I SOON REALIZED I WAS ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE WATER AND BEGAN TO CORRECT THE PROB. THAT WAS WHEN I FLEW INTO THE RESTR AIRSPACE AROUND BWI. I WAS INTERCEPTED BY A JET FIGHTER AND EXPLAINED MY SIT. I WAS REDIRECTED TOWARDS MY WWD DEST. I WAS CONTACTED AGAIN AND ASKED TO LAND AT THE CLOSEST ARPT; WHICH WAS RJD. I WAS ESCORTED BY A HELI FROM US CUSTOMS. ONCE ON THE GND I WAS QUESTIONED; INFORMATION WAS TAKEN AND I WAS RELEASED TO FLY ONTO WWD. I USED POOR JUDGEMENT IN CONTINUING ON TOO FAR S BEFORE TRUSTING THE INSTRUMENTS. I SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED MY POSITION SOONER. MY INEXPERIENCE SHOWED THROUGH ON THE RETURN TRIP.
