DEP MD80 FLT PENETRATES THE P56 AREA NW OF DCA; DC.

Narrative

DURING TAXI FOR TKOF; WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS A GND STOP FOR DEPS DUE TO THE LARGE WX SYS OFF THE NW. CAPT AND FO DISCUSSED SHUTTING DOWN R ENG AS THEY TAXIED TO THE HOLD PAD BY RWY 4; EXPECTING LONG DELAY. APU WAS RESTARTED AND THE R ENG WAS SECURED. AFTER 5-10 MINS IN THE HOLD PAD; GND CTL DIRECTED US TO CONTACT CLRNC DELIVERY FOR A WX RERTE. WE RECEIVED NEW ROUTING FROM ATC. WHILE REPROGRAMMING THE NAV SYS WITH THE NEW FLT PLAN; THE CAPT SET THE 246 DEG RADIAL IN HIS COURSE FOR TRACKING TO THE FLUKY INTXN. THE CAPT THEN BRIEFED THE ENG FAILURE PROC FOR RWY 1. THE BRIEF WAS INTERRUPTED BY GND CTL. GND CTL CLRED US TO TAXI FROM THE HOLD PAD AND CROSS RWY 4; THEN CONTACT TWR FOR DEP. THEY DIRECTED US TO CROSS RWY 4; PULL UP TO; BUT HOLD SHORT OF RWY 1 IN THE PAD. AS WE WERE PULLING INTO POS AND COMPLETING THE TKOF CHKLIST; TWR DIRECTED US INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 1; AND TO BE READY; BECAUSE TFC WAS ON A 4 MI FINAL. TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF; AND FO PERFORMED NORMAL TKOF AND ENTERED IMC CONDITIONS; AND WAS IN A L TURN AROUND 500 FT. FO WAS USING RAW DATA FOR DEP; AND CAPT WAS IN MAP MODE FOR WX PROBS ON DEP. ONCE AIRBORNE; TWR DIRECTED A CHANGE TO DEP CTL. INITIAL CALL TO DEP WAS MADE ON TWR FREQ. TWR AGAIN DIRECTED CHANGE TO DEP. WE CHKED IN WITH DEP CTL AT AROUND 1600 FT. DURING THIS TIME; ENG AND AIRFOIL ICE WAS CALLED FOR AND APPLIED. SEVERAL SECONDS LATER; DEP CTL ASKED US WHAT OUR HDG WAS. WE RESPONDED THAT IT WAS 340 DEGS. THEY DIRECTED US TO FLY A 330 DEG HDG. ONCE ESTABLISHED ON 330 DEG HDG; CAPT RE-SET FO'S COURSE TO 246 FLUCKY FIX AS PER CLRNC. DEP CTL THEN GAVE US A TURN TO 270 DEG HDG; THEN DIRECT TO FLUKY INTXN. WE LATER RECEIVED AN ACARS MESSAGE FROM DISPATCH TO CONTACT DCA FAA TWR UPON LNDG AT DFW. DURING THE FLT; SEVERAL MORE ACARS MESSAGES FROM DISPATCH WERE RECEIVED. LATER IN FLT; DISPATCH CONTACTED US VIA COMMERCIAL RADIO TO ASK US IF EVERYTHING WAS OK ON THE FLT DECK. WE RESPONDED THAT WE WERE OK; AND EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL; AND ASKED WHAT WAS THE PROB. THEY ASKED US IF WE ENCOUNTERED ANY PROBS ON DEP. WE RESPONDED NOT TO OUR KNOWLEDGE. DISPATCH INFORMED US THAT WE MAY BE MET AT THE GATE FOR FURTHER INFO.
