A PA28-236 PLT BLUNDERED INTO THE NY ADIZ.

Narrative

GOOD VFR CONDITIONS. I DEPARTED SUSSEX COUNTY; NJ (FWN); CLBED TO 3000 FT MSL; FOR LOCAL FLT TO OBSERVE (TEST) MY VOR NAV OP. FLEW WITHOUT FLT PLAN BEING FILED; DIRECT TO SAX VOR (SPARTA VOR). EXECUTED AN ENTRY TO THE HOLD PATTERN AND RETURNED TO THE SAX VOR; FOLLOWING THE PUBLISHED VOR A APCH TO FWN AND RETURNED TO FWN. TOTAL FLT TIME WAS APPROX 24 MINS. WHEN BACK AT FWN; AND DURING REFUELING; I RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM NY ATC ADVISING ME THAT I HAD MADE AN UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY INTO THE NY ADIZ. THEY TOOK DOWN MY NAME; DATE OF BIRTH; AND SS # AND DIRECTED ME TO CONTACT NY TRACON BY PHONE. NY TRACON REPEATED THE RPTED ENTRY AND TOOK DOWN MY NAME AND ADDRESS; ADVISING ME TO EXPECT A LETTER FROM THE FAA. PRIOR TO MAKING THIS FLT; I BELIEVED THAT THE NY ADIZ LINE WAS THE SAME AS THE NY CLASS B AIRSPACE; AND THAT I WAS NOT ENTERING ANY RESTRICTED AIRSPACE. I EXECUTED THE NORMAL VOR A APCH PATTERN WHICH WAS CLR OF THE CLASS B. I HAD MY TRANSPONDER SET TO VFR 1200 CODE. I WAS MONITORING (LISTENING ONLY) NY APCH ON 127.6 WHILE IN THE VICINITY OF THE SAX VOR; AND THEN THE LOCAL CTAF 122.7 WHILE RETURNING TO FWN. I HAVE NO PREVIOUS INCIDENTS; VIOLATIONS; OR ACCIDENTS. I ROUTINELY FILE AND FLY IFR FLT PLANS IN BOTH IMC AND VMC.
