Narrative
PROVIDENCE TWR HAD CLRED US FOR TKOF. WE COMPLETED OUR TKOF CHKLIST AND TOOK THE RWY. MY FO WAS A JUNIOR CAPT FLYING FROM THE L SEAT. HE SET TKOF PWR AND EITHER INADVERTENTLY; OR DIRECTLY; TRIMMED ACFT OUTSIDE THE PLANE'S TKOF TRIM ENVELOPE. THE TKOF WARNING HORN SOUNDED AND THE TRIM ANNUNCIATOR ILLUMINATED. THE ENGS NEVER REACHED TKOF PWR; DUE TO FADEC CTL OF SLOW WINDUP. AIRSPD WAS 50 KTS OR LESS. I TOLD CO-CAPT TO ABORT; ASSUMING TRIM MALFUNCTION AND TOLD TWR SOON AFTER. NO EMER WAS DECLARED. TKOF WARNING CAN BE TESTED WITH ENGS NOT RUNNING; BY BRINGING R THRUST LEVER ABOVE MCT. UPON CLRING THE RWY; CREW PERFORMED AIR AFTER TKOF CHKLIST. I WAS REACHING FOR THE ABNORMAL CHKLIST; WHEN MY CO-CAPT ADMITTED HIS GUILT OR STUPIDITY. I INFORMED TWR THAT THE PROB WAS RESOLVED AND WE WOULD BE READY FOR TKOF; UPON REACHING THE END. THE ABORT WAS LIKE A HIGH SPD TAXI STOP. VERY LITTLE BRAKES WERE USED AND NO LIMITATIONS WERE EXCEEDED. UPON REACHING THE RWY FOR THE SECOND TIME; CREW PERFORMED TKOF CHKLIST. I TOLD HIM TO NOT TOUCH THE TRIM UNTIL AFTER TKOF. TKOF RESULTED WITH NO FURTHER PROBS. THE TWR WAS VERY INTERESTED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I SIMPLY EXPLAINED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SOMEONE TRIMMED DURING TKOF ROLL ON ME. INCLUDING THIS IN OUR TKOF BRIEF ALMOST SEEMS A WASTE OF TIME FOR MOST CREWS.
