RWY INCURSION BY A FALCON 900 OFF RWY 36C AT MEM; TN.

Narrative

I WAS THE NON-FLYING FO; ON A FALCON 900 CPR JET; FROM MEM TO BTL. I CALLED MEMPHIS GND CTL AND REQUESTED TAXI CLRNC FOR TKOF. GND CTL ISSUED US A CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 36C VIA TXWYS A; B AND C; HOLD ON THE RAMP FOR 2 INBOUND ACFT. IT IS OUR POLICY TO WRITE DOWN TAXI CLRNCS. AFTER THE 2 INBOUND ACFT ENTERED THE RAMP; WE TAXIED FROM FBO TO TXWY A. DURING THE TAXI WE (AS THE CREW) QUESTIONED THE TAXI ROUTING AMONGST OURSELVES BECAUSE WE SAW THAT IT CROSSED THE DEP END OF RWY 36C. IT IS OUR COMPANY POLICY TO ENSURE THAT BEFORE XING ANY RWY IT IS SAFE TO PROCEED. AS WE APCHED THE DEP END OF RWY 36C I NOTICED AN ACFT; WITH ALL OF ITS LIGHTS ON; ON THE RWY. I SAID; 'STOP.' OUR ACFT WAS STOPPED WITH THE NOSE CONE ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE. AT THE SAME TIME GND CTL ISSUED A PARTIALLY BLOCKED XMISSION INSTRUCTING AN ACFT OF UNKNOWN TAIL NUMBER TO STOP. INSTINCT TOLD ME THAT THE XMISSION WAS FOR US; SO I RESPONDED WITH FLT X IS STOPPED. ON THE TWR FREQ; I BELIEVE THE TWR ABORTED THE TKOF OF THE ACFT ON RWY 36C. WE WERE THEN INSTRUCTED TO 'CONTINUE OUR TAXI TO RWY 36C; VIA TXWY S AS PREVIOUSLY INSTRUCTED.' I LOOKED AT MY FLT PLAN FORM AND VERIFIED THAT I DID WRITE DOWN TXWY C NOT TXWY S. ON DEP FREQ MEMPHIS DEP GAVE US A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO 'PLTDEV' TO WORRY ABOUT. DURING THE PHONE CONVERSATION WITH ZMP; ATC REPLAYED THE TAPES OF THE TAXI CLRNC. ON THE TAPE; I READ BACK TXWYS A; B; AND S. UNFORTUNATELY; IF THIS IS TRUE; I CAN ONLY THINK THAT THE 'C' SOUND IN TXWY S AND THE SEQUENTIAL ORDER OF THE TXWYS; A; B; AND 'C'ERRA; FOOLED ME INTO WRITING THE WRONG LETTER ON MY FLT PLAN PAGE.
