Narrative
I PICKED UP MY PLANE FROM ANNUAL INSPECTION AT 3MD0 (6 MILE SE OF FDK). UPON DEP IN 6000 FT VFR CONDITIONS; HEADED NE (CLR OF FDK TFC) TO CHECK OUT THE PLANE. AFTER VERIFYING OK; HEADED E AND CALLED PCT APCH TO PICK UP PREVIOUSLY FILED FLT PLAN FOR RETURN TO HOME BASE EME. BEGAN CIRCLING NW OF VISUAL CHK BARNES FIELD (MD47) WHICH IS 22 BAL 306R; ON THE EDGE OF THE ADIZ. I RPTED POSITION AS 23DME W OF BAL; 2000 FT; WITH FLT PLAN ON FILE. PCT TOLD ME I WAS NOT IN THEIR AREA; AND GAVE ME ANOTHER FREQ. I RPTED SAME POSITION TO NEW CTLR; WHO ALSO TOLD ME I WAS NOT IN HIS AREA; AND SENT ME BACK TO THE ORIGINAL FREQ. THE FIRST CTLR THEN FOUND MY FLT PLAN; GAVE ME A SQUAWK CODE; AND CLRED ME INTO THE CLASS B DIRECT EME. ABOUT 10 MINS LATE; THE CTLR GAVE ME A TELEPHONE NUMBER AND ASKED ME TO CALL. ON THE GND; I CALLED AND WAS TOLD I HAD ENTERED THE ADIZ WITHOUT A CODE; AND WOULD BE WRITTEN UP. I KNOW THIS AREA AND THE ADIZ PROCS WELL; AND AT NO TIME THOUGHT I HAD VIOLATED THE ADIZ. IT IS POSSIBLE; HOWEVER; THAT WHILE CIRCLING; CHKING OUT THE PLANE; AND SWITCHING FREQ; THAT I MIGHT HAVE INADVERTENTLY CIRCLED THROUGH THE EDGE OF THE ADIZ. LESSONS: GIVE MORE SPATIAL CLRNC FROM THE ADIZ; AND DEVOTE MORE ATTENTION TO POSITION AWARENESS WHEN NEAR CTLED AIRSPACE.
