Synopsis

SAAB 340 FLT CREW HAS TAIL STRIKE DURING LNDG AT FNT.

Narrative

ON APR/MON/03; ACR X WAS ENRTE FROM MDW TO FNT. THE FO WAS THE PF. FNT TWR CLRED US TO LAND VISUAL RWY 27. ALL PARAMETERS OF THE APCH WERE NORMAL AT TOUCHDOWN. AFTER TOUCHDOWN; THE NOSE OF THE ACFT PITCHED UP TO A NOSE HIGH ATTITUDE AND BEGAN TO DRIFT TO THE L OF CTRLINE. THE ACFT ALSO APPEARED TO BE A FEW FT OFF OF THE GND. AT THIS POINT; I TOOK COMMAND OF THE ACFT AND INITIATED A GAR. FNT TWR WAS ADVISED THAT FLT ACR X WAS ON THE GAR. THE SUBSEQUENT LNDG TO RWY 27 WAS NORMAL. WHILE TAXING TO THE GATE; ACR GND CREW MEMBERS WERE POINTING AT THE NOSE STRUT. WE WERE ADVISED THAT THE NOSE STRUT WAS FULLY EXTENDED; AND THAT THE GND CREW WAS UNABLE TO GET THE TAILSTAND UNDER THE ACFT AFTER OFF-LOADING THE BAGS FROM THE CARGO HOLD. WE WERE NOTIFIED OF ERRORS IN THE BAG COUNT. AT LEAST 5 BAGS THAT WERE TAGGED AS NORMAL (25 LBS) WERE ACTUALLY HEAVY (50 LBS); 3 OF WHICH WERE ESTIMATED TO BE APPROX 80 LBS. THESE EXTRA BAGS PUT THE WT LIMIT OF CARGO AREA Z TO BE EXCEEDED. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT NUMBER LISTED ON THE INFO STRIP.
