Narrative

UNSATISFACTORY CREW REST FACILITY. B767 2-CLASS CONFIGN. B767B 2-CLASS CONFIGN BUSINESS CLASS SEAT IS AN UNSATISFACTORY FACILITY FOR CREW REST. THE SEAT IS TOO SMALL AND DOES NOT EXTEND TO A LONG ENOUGH POS FOR LARGER PEOPLE. THE SEAT BACK DOES NOT RECLINE BACK FAR ENOUGH AND THE LEG REST DOES NOT RISE HIGH ENOUGH. THE END RESULT IS THAT IF YOU ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO DOZE OFF YOU WILL BE AWAKENED BY SOME DISCOMFORT. I WOKE UP WITH PINS AND NEEDLES IN MY ARMS AND LEGS BECAUSE THE POOR SEAT POS CUT OFF CIRCULATION. NOT ONLY DOES THIS PROMOTE FATIGUE; BUT IT IS UNHEALTHY AS WELL. THE COCKPIT SEAT PROMOTES SLEEP BETTER THAN THIS. WHEN I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTN OF A CHIEF PLT; HE SAID 'DON'T EXPECT THIS TO CHANGE ANY TIME SOON.' IT IS BOTH UNBELIEVABLE AND UNCONSCIONABLE THAT A COMPANY THAT -- NOT TOO LONG AGO -- HAD A FATAL MISHAP ATTRIBUTED TO FATIGUE; WOULD CONSIDER THIS SEAT APPROPRIATE EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS RPTS FROM OPERATING CREWS TO THE CONTRARY. WE WERE TOLD IN TRAINING; ADDRESSING REST AND FATIGUE STRATEGIES; THAT THE SUBJECT WOULD BE APCHED FROM THE STANDPOINT OF SCIENCE. WHAT SCIENCE HAS ESTABLISHED THIS SEAT AS AN ADEQUATE REST FACILITY. NOW IS TIME TO FIX THIS PROB; BEFORE WE HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT OR MISHAP CAUSED BY FATIGUE.
