Synopsis

PLT LANDED ON A CLOSED RWY AT DMN.

Narrative

I'M ASSUMING THE COLLISION PART OF THIS WAS AN INCIDENT AS OPPOSED TO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T FIT THE DEFINITION OF AN ACCIDENT AS GIVEN IN PART 830. ALTHOUGH IT IS MY PRACTICE TO CHK NOTAMS BEFORE A FLT; FOR SOME REASON; I DIDN'T ON THIS ONE; AND NEVER HAD ANOTHER THOUGHT ABOUT IT UNTIL AFTER THE INCIDENT. I; THEREFORE; VIOLATED THE FAA REQUIREMENT TO KNOW AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT A FLT BEFORE TAKING THAT FLT. SINCE I DIDN'T CHK NOTAMS; WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW WAS THAT THE FIRST 1500 OR SO FT OF DMN RWY 22 WAS CLOSED. BECAUSE OF THIS; I LANDED ON THE CLOSED PART OF RWY 22; DMN. BECAUSE OF THIS; I RAN INTO LOW LYING BARRICADES WHICH HAD BEEN SET UP ACROSS THE RWY TO MARK THE CLOSED PART. THIS CAUSED NON SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO MY PLANE; AND THE BARRICADES. FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES; AND IN CASE OF LEGAL REQUIREMENT; I CALLED THE LCL POLICE TO RPT THIS. SOME DEMING AND NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE CAME TO INVESTIGATE THE INCIDENT. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD RPTED IT TO THE FAA. SINCE THE DAMAGE WAS NON SUBSTANTIAL AS DEFINED BY PART 830; I HAVEN'T; AND DON'T PLAN TO; RPT IT TO THE NTSB.
